Imac randomly shuts down...

hey, just wondered if anyone can help me out. i have a mid 2007 intel imac, recently it has started shuting its self down and beeps 3 times, i have a feeling its due to over heating although the room temperature isnt too hot. this usually happens whilst using maya but has happened a few times whilst using firefox. i have the i stat pro widget and i think the shutdown usually happens when the GPU gets to around 65C, could be wrong though. just thought id see if anyone had any suggestions before i contact apple.

Thanks

24" 2.4ghz intel imac (mid 2007), Mac OS X (10.5.4)

When you get three beeps, this means the iMac has failed it's memory test.
Try taking out your memory from it's banks and re-seat them, if necessary swap the memory from one bank to the other.
Hopefully you don't have bad memory.

For future references when you hear beeps, this is what they mean.

1 beep = No RAM installed/detected

2 beeps = Incompatible RAM type installed (for example, EDO)

3 beeps = No RAM banks passed memory testing

4 beeps = Bad checksum for the remainder of the boot ROM

5 beeps = Bad checksum for the ROM boot block
