Cracked MacBook Case

I have had my MacBook for just a year, and all of the sudden the case is cracked by the right wrist rest. The piece is still attached, but I fear that it will fall off. I have seen similar cracks on Mac Books on many web sites. Is Apple doing anything about this problem? I have never seen any of the Titanium or Aluminum Mac Books or Power Books crack. Is there a flaw in the plastic that they used? Any info would be appreciated!

Hey everybody,
I have exactly the same problem and know why this happened and everything. Really, its not that weird lol ... but im sure someone else exlpained it above.

so, my problem is the following: i bought my macbook (early 2008) in may 2008 in Germany.
right now, though, im living in colombia, south america and here, there are no apple stores!

so, my warranty should cover this cuz i bought it less than 12 months ago. the only thing is, that i dont want to send my macbook anywhere. 1. because in colombia, its pretty unsafe to send stuff by post cuz it gets "lost" hehe and 2. because i'm scared that on the trip around the world it will even break more and warrenty would make me responsible...

does anyone got an idea what i could do? I would be so thankful, i'm really desperate...

thanks a lot.

I love apple products and have always been very loyal, but this cracking case problem has me really dissapointed. It seems to be a common problem with MacBooks that their cases just crack by themselves. I googled it and many complains have been reported. There is even a Flickr group about it http://www.flickr.com/groups/crackedmacbook/
The first crack on my MacBook appeared about a month ago. Today I saw two real cracks in the back where the hinges are obviously stress cracks. My computer is 10 months old and I treat it like a baby. I'm going to take it to the Apple store where I bought it tomorrow. This will be the third time my computer goes for repair under warranty. Apple should address the problem and do something about it like a product recall. this and other factory defects can really damage customers' brand loyalty.

I've had my Macbook for just over a year now and noticed a crack on the casing to the right of the trackpad. After researching the problem online, I went into my local mac store this afternoon (not an actual apple store) and they said that they would fix it for free. They didn't give me the run around or any problems and I'm supposed to get my computer back tomorrow. I'm very pleased with the service provided, especially as I don't have apple care or any extended warranty.
