99% of people hold their iPhone wrong, blocking the antenna!

Most people don't know that the iPhone antenna is located on the bottom, both original the iPhone and the iPhone 3G. If you don't block the bottom, you will get at least twice the reception bars.

TRY IT User uploaded file grab the iPhone from the top or sideways on top and you will double your reception bars!

I personally hate that Apple placed the antenna on the bottom on the new iPhone 3G also. Most cell phones have the antennas on the top which is why they get better reception.

Macbook, Mac Mini, iphone 3G,, Mac OS X (10.5.4), Yes I bought 4 iPhones and sold them, love/hate, iPhone apps are so limited! Apple controls too MUCH

That's right, the antenna is located at the bottom

Sorry to break it to ya but no matter where the antenna is located the phone just being 'on' is hazardous to our health. Cell phones have been around for at least 10 years now and recently UCLA scientists discovered that the radiation from cell phones are hazardous just by being 'on' and next to the user. They say that cell phones are more likely to cause cancer than smoking will. Sad but I doubt this will slow anyone from using their cell phones... including myself 😝

Where on earth do people get the information from that they give on these forums?

The OP is correct. the antenna is at the bottom.

Covering it with your hand 'can' reduce the signal strength.

The urban myth of mobile phones giving people brain cancer was discredited a long time ago.

People come to these forums for HELP with problems. For heavens sake, make sure what you are typing is FACT. Not hearsay or your own opinion.

How about from Apple's own product information pages?

You might want to take a look for yourself before mocking others;

"Clever iPhone engineering integrates those antennas into a few unexpected places: the metal ring around the camera, the audio jack, the metal screen bezel, and the iPhone circuitry itself."

I was replying to Slacky and talking about

http://www.iphone-repairs.co.uk/spares.html

which repeatedly talks about the ORIGINAL iPhone and you see very clearly that they show the OLD METAL back cover and antenna cover. The 3G does NOT have separate antenna and back covers.

Look at the photos and if you have any clue at all, you will see it ONLY shows components of the old 2G iPhone.
