I have been adding art work gradually to my iTunes for the songs I ripped from my CDs. I was doing just fine by highlighting the entire album, right clicking, hitting "Get Info", and just adding the art work. But just recently it has decided that enough is enough, and will not add any more. In the art work box where a plus used to show up when you drag a picture over, now a circle with a slash through it appears. And I have tried this with all sorts of bands so I know it has nothing to do with a certain one. Plus the fact that I don't have any .WAV files on iTunes, so I have no idea what it could be.

The files are probably marked as Read Only. Go to the files and remove the read only flag.
None of my songs are marked as Read Only. Is there another reason why this could be acting up.
Do what I do...........go to Google...click on the Image tab at the top ...search for the album cover.....then copy and paste! This is what I do when iTunes will not retrieve it! Works like a charm!
In the little bar above the artwork, does it say "Now Playing"?
If so, click on it once to change it to "Selected Song" and see if you can now add artwork.

I tried putting it on "Selected Song" and "Playing", and it still didn't work. Is there a limit on how much artwork you can put on iTunes?
No, the artwork gets added to each song file.
(EDIT: I have over 8000 songs, all with artwork)
What file types are these, anyway? m4a? m4p? mp3?

Hi wolfpk54: I found an album cover I have been looking for by going to google as you suggested. However, I copy it from google, but how do I paste it into0 iTunes?
Most are the AAC audio files, and I have a few that are MPEGs.
Hmm...I don't have any music files with an AAC or MPEG extension.
If you go to a song > highlight > get info > artwork tab, can you drag any art work there?
If that still shows the slash, iTunes must think it is read-only.
The only other suggestion I have is to go to download.com and get Tag & Rename v3.17. See if it will let you edit artwork in the tags....if you can edit with another program, then it is a problem with iTunes and I would report it to Apple support.

Yeah, I've tried going under the "get info" tab to alter the the artwork, and it is being stubborn. I think I am going to update my iTunes to that new 5.0.1 and see if that helps. Thanks for your help.
Hi, i have got the same problem...i got the new version of itunes and i was adding artwork to my albums and it worked for the first 5 albums but then itunes stopped saving the artwork to any other songs....i made sure none of the songs were read only, which they were not.....i can put the artwork on the song but it does not save it, if i click off the song it disappears...and if i add artwork to a group of songs if never shows up, like nothing ever happened....i have uninstalled and reinstalled and its the same....any help would be great..thanks
I've also been having some minor problems saving artwork to some files. It's usually mp3's encoded with VBR. These mp3 files wasn't made by me, so maybe It's the ID3 tags that are the problems. I have never experienced any problems with my own encoded files (AAC).
Image files should be in either .jpg or .bmp format to work the best.

Actually, artwork should be JPG or PNG format. iTunes actually won't accept anything else. In the case of BMP, I think it converts it to PNG.
You may be right Otto42. But the albums I have bought so far from iTunes Music store all have artwork in .bmp format included.
I don't know if they are unconverted, or if they are being converted when I play them?.

They're probably being converted when you drag the artwork out. Internally, the artwork is always PNG or JPG format. At least, I've never found one with a BMP file embedded in it. And using BMP wouldn't make much sense anyway, since PNG is lossless and always smaller than a BMP.
Can't add artwork to iTunes...
