capturing video from Sony GV-HD700

I am very new to the video capture world. I have a Mac Pro with Final Cut Pro 2 loaded. I have just purchased a Sony GV-HD700 and want to know what the best way to use this unit to capture video/audio on to my Mac Pro, and ultimately edit in Final Cut Pro. Can some one give me some guidance from the correct cabling to the actual capture on to my Mac.

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

You'll need a 6-pin to 4-pin firewire cable. If you are capturing HD, go into the menu > IN/OUT REC > i.LINK CONV and set it to off, and A/V->DV OUT to off. Go into FCP and go to the File Menu and select "easy setup". In the easy setup menu set the "Format" to "HDV" and set "Use" to HDV - 1080i60. Click "Setup". Now go to File > Log and Capture (command-8). You're now set to capture. Just queue your tape and hit "Capture Now" or set in and out points and capture "Clip".

If you want to capture SD footage, then on your Sony unit, go to the menu and set the i.LINK CONV to "on". In the easy setup menu you will want to set "Format" to "NTSC" and "Use" to DV-NTSC".

Good luck!
