Problem With Outlook PST FIle - Possibly iTunes Related
I have read a few threads on here about problems related to iTunes and Outlook with regards to contacts and calendar entries, but, so far, I have not seen a post which covers my problem exactly. Apologies though if my problem has been addressed already on this forum somewhere before.
At the moment I am running iTunes version 7.7.0.43 and Outlook 2007 and I recently begun to have problems with my Outlook PST file right around the same time I installed iTunes it seems. I can't remember exactly when the problems started, but the problems never occurred over the many years I have been using the same Outlook PST file and so that is why I believe the problems that started recently started occurring around the same time when I setup iTunes to sync my Outlook contacts with my iPhone.
My Outlook file still more or less functions normally most of the time, but almost every time I open Outlook I get an error message telling me that the Outlook file was not closed properly the last time it was used and it must be checked for errors. It then does the check, which often takes about 20 minutes while running the check in the background, but each time it finds no errors.
I have since run Scanpst.exe a few times and it seems to have found some errors and corrected them, but not solved the problem of Outlook checking the file for errors all the time.
My PST file is only around 300MB at this point. I had discovered last night it was around 1.5GB, but I did a major cleanup on it in the last 24 hours and now it is only 300MB as I mentioned.
At this point I have disabled iTunes from being able to sync with my Outlook contacts any longer, and I have also disabled the Apple iTunes add-in for Outlook within Outlook.
Besides the constant checking of the PST files for errors, iTunes added a bunch cell phone number contacts from my iPhone, which now appear in my Outlook address book as dead entries. I have tried to both access, open, and/or delete these contacts and it just won’t let me. If I try to open or edit them I get that invalid ENTRYID error message. If I try to delete them they just remain there and are never deleted.
Any ideas on how I can fix the problem so that Outlook stops checking the Outlook file for errors, and more importantly, how I can delete those invalid entries from my contacts, would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,
Marc
