PC detects iPhone then disconnects and repeats...

When I connect my iPhone to one of my PC's it detects the phone and the phone makes that little bling sound that its made the connection, but then moments later it makes the sound again that it disconnected. If I leave it connected to the PC longer than 30seconds it starts going crazy connect/disconnect really quickly over and over. The phone works fine if I connect it to another PC so I know its not the phone. I'm confused as to what it could be with this one PC and have been trying to isolate whats causing it.

It's connected directly to the PC USB 2.0 port (no extension, hub, nothing).
I've tried removing all other USB devices which at one point it seemed to resolve the issue but tonight this solution isn't working.

Is anyone else having this issue? Is there something maybe running in the background on the PC that is causing this... Any ideas would be great.

I should add that other USB devices (printer, mouse, keyboard) work fine. Also other USB devices that I can transfer files on and off (two digital cameras and a 16GB USB Flash Drive) have no issues as well.

At this point I'm assuming there is some type of compatibility issue with the USB Chipset on my PC's Motherboard (Intel D865 PERL) and the iPhone.

Is nobody else having this issue or maybe even something similar?

I believe i might have the same problem as you. i plug my iphone in the USB port and the computer makes the bling noise as if it connects to the computer but usually the iphone would say its charging but it doesnt anymore and the computer doesnt detect the apple mobile device. When i plug my ipod in the computer it works and when i plug my iphone in another computer it works. Its just the connection between my iphone and the computer it is synced to. I was told this might help me but it didnt so maybe it will help you.

Verify iPhone Driver/Service Installation
iPhone requires two important pieces of software to operate properly on Windows. First, the driver must be installed; for iPhone the driver is USBAAPL.SYS. Second, Apple Mobile Device Support must be installed as a Windows Service. If these are not installed, see the Reinstall iTunes section below.

Verify that the driver is installed by connecting iPhone to the computer and following these steps:

On the Start menu, click Run.
In the Open field, type devmgmt.msc and click OK. A list of devices will be displayed.
Scroll down to +Universal Serial Bus+ controllers and click the small plus sign to expand this group. iPhone will be listed as either +Apple iPhone+ or +Apple Mobile Device+ depending on the version of the driver installed.
Right-click Apple iPhone (or Apple Mobile Device) and choose Properties from the shortcut menu.
When the Properties window opens, select the Driver tab.
Click Driver Details to view more information.
Verify that the Apple Mobile Device Service is installed and running using the Services MMC snap-in using these steps:

On the Start menu, click Run.
In the Open field, type services.msc and click OK. A list of devices will be displayed.
View the list In alphabetical order and verify that the "Apple Mobile Device Service" status is "Started."

If the status does not indicate the service is started, right-click Apple Mobile Device Service and choose Start from the shortcut menu.
If the service is installed and started, right-click the service and choose Restart from the shortcut menu.
If the driver is installed and the service is installed and started, check the Event Viewer for error messages.

On the Start menu, click Run.
In the Open field, type eventvwr.msc and click OK.
For more information on viewing or interpreting event logs in Windows, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 308427, "How to view and manage event logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP."

I hope that made sense to you, i copied and pasted. Hope this works for you, i didnt work for me.

I have the exact same problem with my iPhone 3G, and have yet to find a solution after browsing through every corner of these forums as well as the rest of the web.

My setup:

HP Compaq NC6000 Laptop
Intel Pentium M 1.60 GHz
512 MB RAM
External WD Passport HD 320GB

The iPhone works perfectly fine on other computers, but on mine it will not stop disconnecting and connecting every few seconds when I plug it in. My first thought was that it was probably caused by an overworked computer with too little resources - so I closed every single program (including my anti-virus), and process, except for the ones I need to run the computer, and removed all other USB devices. This time however, it got even worse, reconnecting every second, if not more. Clearly not the solution.

I've been running my 1st gen iPhone without any problems on the same computer before, but it took no more than 2 days before my iPhone 3G started driving me insane with the disconnections. I have my iPhone plugged in directly to my USB 2.0 port (no hub or anything like that). I have seriously considered throwing the phone out the window more than a few times in frustration.

I have seen at least 6 more people on these forums alone with the exact same problem, so there has got to be something on our PCs that is in serious conflict with the iPhone.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Karl
