AVI can't open in QT, but VLC

I was asked to see if I can open a avi file they have.
I was able to play in VLC, but not QT.

They are coming from PC side, and they are wanting to make the file to be able to play within windows media player.

I was hoping to be able to open on my QTpro then export the avi to wmv file.

The problem is, I just can't get the QT to read/play the avi file.
I tried to export the avi file from VLC since that's the only player can play, however, I only get error.

Divix player can't play neither...

I looked through the forum and found Perian, downloaded and installed it, no luck on QT.

On the Perian website, it says to delete old codec... then I do not have any idea what codec I have on my machine anymore, and don't know where to look to delete those codec they specify to delete.

Can anyone know the solution to this..??

My QTpr version is 7.5(149.5).

Sorry.
What a waste of time and resources.
AVI container was discontinued by its authors nearly ten years ago as Microsoft switched to the WMP container format.
Day after day and year after year these Discussions pages have been filled with questions and answers about such a conversion.
These files have nothing at all to do with QuickTime as it only supports the ancient, deprecated AVI Cinepac Video codec.
Toss in the towel. Give up. Go play with your kids or answer some old emails.

Thanks!
I figured since QT wouldn't play the video, I wouldn't be able to gather the information.

However, I went ahead and get the inspection opening in the QT, and open up the inspection.

I found that the codec for this avi is tscc format.

Now, I can google this and search tscc within this forum as well...
Hope I can find out some solution to this...

Thanks!

Thanks QuickTimeKirk for your respond.

I wish I could just toss it away, and tell people just download VLC player and view it, however, working in engineering company with bunch of... I'd just say not very familier with computer people....
They DEMAND to be able to view on windows media player... or they expect if you click the file, it will play!

Well, anyway, I still should try to see if there is a way... if I still can't, I guess I can just go to their desk and download the VLC for window for them...

and... I DO hate to deal with avi files always..
