Purchased app from iPhone won't transfer to iTunes

I purchased an app on my iPhone and now every time I sync, it starts off with:

Transferring purchases from "iPhone", Copying (app)

The progress bar get about 10% and then it moves on to the next task such as installing new apps or syncing contacts. It does this EVERY TIME. I go to File->Transfer Purchases and it says the same thing above, hits 10%, and stops. I never get an error message. The app doesn't show up on my "Applications" in the library nor does it show on the "Applications" tab for manual syncing. I can't re-download the app via iTunes because iTunes doesn't realized I purchased it and wants to charge me again.

My phone is not Jailbroken and I'm running 2.0.2, although I have been getting many 0xE800002E errors lately and have had to sync apps manually for a while and I'm afraid of losing my purchased app should I ever have to do a wipe and restore.

Okay I have now got the solution having fixed the problem on my phone. Unfortunatley it is the worst case scenario to fix it.

You need to delete all your apps from itunes and phone, then do a full restore and set your phone up as a new phone - Don't use a previous backup, you don't lose too much, SMS, call history, YouTube bookmarks - but all your contacts, music, email etc etc can be resynced.

Then go and get all your apps again - you don't have to pay again, and add them back on.

If I get an app on my phone it now happily syncs back.

So that solves that. But don't get me started on mobileme and push email not working!!!!

I had the same issue but i was able to fix it a little easier. I restarted my PowerBook, then deleted all the pay apps from the phone and redownloaded them via itunes. Then i plugged it in for a sync and it put the apps back on the phone with no issues. I guess for now, avoid purchasing apps over the phone. All the free ones don't seem to be an issue though.

I hate to say this, but j4m was right. A cold restore is the only way to go. I suggest erasing all data from the iPhone and then turn off auto sync in iTunes, then delete the back-up file in preferences > devices. When you're iPhone re-activates hit restore to be on the safe side (I tried just activating it, and it didn't work.) After you've done all that, you can re-sync all of your apps via the iTunes menu.

It pains me to do so, but it seemed to be my only solution. Make sure you turn off all of your push options before hand, you don't want to kill your contacts and calendars by mistake. You'll lose quite a bit of data, like recent calls and threaded SMS messages, but it'll get everything up to snuff again.

Hi David, if you trash them all it's fine, your itunes account keeps a record of every purchase or free app you get (you should get receipts emailed all the time). All I did was a screen grab to remember what I actual had and them got them all again after the restore. It does give you a warning message saying are you sure you want to buy this app, but if you say yes another screen pops up saying you've already purchased it and it'll be free, so don't worry.
