I am ready to become a first time user of the Macbook switching from The PC to what I believe to be a better way. My purchase was stopped short when I was told there is no DC charger for a Mac. I am purchasing this computer for use on a boat with only DV power and do not want to go through using an inverter as there is always a loss and 12 volt boat power is at a premium.
Is this true? I also do not seem to be able to contact customer service via their web site....seems they do not wish to have questions asked of them. Most PC sites are not that way.
You can contact customer service or tech support by calling the AppleCare number that you will find by clicking on the Contact Us link on the bottom right of this page.
You might check with APC's web site as they do have portable DC chargers that may work with a MacBook. Searching Google may provide additional prospects. However, Apple does not make a direct DC charger for the MacBook other than the AC adaptor with which it comes.
It is surprising that the Macbook does not have any type of 12 volt car charger. They must be the only laptop that does not. I called customer service and they said it came with a 12 volt charger and I kept telling them they were incorrect. They finally agreed and wanted me to purchase an inverter 150 Watt that plugs into a cigarette lighter and the power plug plugs into that. What a waste of energy with all the loss involved.
Well back to the old PC search again.
As I suggested check third-party vendors via Google for car chargers and battery supplies to supplement the existing battery. Apple also has an adaptor cable for use on airlines but I don't know if they are compatible with simple auto charger connectors.
