You create your own navigation bar within the iWeb site that you have made. All you do is go to Inspector and click on page and then hide nav bar and then proceed to build your own wherever you want on the page. You need either a text box or shape and you can use colour fill and whatever font you want. You can have then anywhere you want on the page and then you just need to hyperlink each name on the nav bar to each page, so that the links work.

Unfortunately, it is not that simple. To be able to alter any of this, you need to publish your site to a folder so that the html files are created. iWeb does not create these files until published. You then need an html editor to be able to change any of the code or CSS, so you would need to import the site into something like Text Edit or Text Wrangler and then change elements of coding and CSS.

Unless you really know what you are doing with hand coded html, then it really is not worth it. You would do better to just re-arrange your site a little, turn off the original nav bar and then create your own. If you do this, you will also find that you site is located by Google more effectively too.

I have to say that I create my own nav bars for my site, as mostly, I don't like the ones provided by iWeb templates.

this is a GREAT thread everybody!

i am SURE i will eventually make my own custom navbar. so i AM taking all this in.

right now i'm kind of creating a template of ideas to show... the ideas, but i want it to look decent.

my REASON for wanting to adjust the navbar font size in the first place (and i did adjust it down to 6) is so that my links would not double up, at least in a default live view.

(i use so much enlargement when i read the interwebs that everything is a mess anyway. 😉

if i mark this thread "question solved" (by Wyodor), will it be closed down from further contributions?

that is great, thanks.

as long as i;m using this theme (BeBop) if i do do that i;ll have to extract the backing image because i want the same look as i have now. what you might notice if that if (using that theme) you toggle the navbar on and off the entire page moves up and down accordingly, as expected, but it looks better "longer" even if there was no navbar!
