how to change order of tracks on ipod

OK, I'm having trouble changing the order of the tracks on my ipod. I want the songs to play in the exact order as it is on the album, but no matter how many times i try to change the order on the playlist (i've even created new playlists to do this), it syncs onto my ipod in the EXACT same order as it was before. And it's not even in any particular order (not alphabetical or anything, so i can rename the files and it'd still play in that order). It just seems totally random to me (like why does the ipod keep choosing to play those songs in that particular order??)

I have also tried the following...

- Changing the Get Info so everything is exactly the same for each album (consistent data for track number, disc number, artist, album, year, etc etc).
- Left clicking on the column bar and then choosing 'copy to play order'.
- Making sure my 'shuffle' option is OFF

I don't understand why is it so difficult to make the ipod sync the songs in the same order that i created my playlist in??? And WHY it keeps the songs in the exact same order each time.

Besides that, is there even a single way to get the ipod to play your songs in the order that you want it too?

PC, Windows XP, none

I mean, let's say you have a bunch of songs by the same artist, but they're all on different albums.

The songs seem to play according to album, but how come you can't control the order in which those songs are in (for that particular album)?

At the same time, how come you can't create a playlist by which you can play songs in an order that does not correspond to the albums they're listed under?

For a normal album, the minimum info you need to get your album to list correctly is Artist name, song titles, album names, and then track _ of _. If some of the artist tags have a "featuring" artist, like "Bad Rapper feat. another bad rapper" then you will want to use the Album Artist tag to fill in the one name you want the album to be listed under.
So first select all the tracks from the album you are having trouble with. Do a Get Info on the entire bunch. Assuming none of the tracks "feature" anyone else, do you see the artist, album, and total number of tracks filled in?
