Just to confirm that freezer trick works. At least for me.
Before 4 days i suddenly loose wifi on iPhone for good (with occasional short comes to life) and from that moment i surfing web for tips.
Needles to say i tried every single tip which can be found on net, from restarting Airport, switching channels, changing WEP passes, deleting prefs on Mac, even i upgraded from Leopard to Snow, on iPhone i was go up from 3.0 to 3.1.2, and try that 3.1 also, but - "nada", dead. And many many more tips...last night i read this topic all way through and put phone for about 10min in freezer without covering him too. Nothing, short showing of WiFi icon as before, 15 sec max, and gone.
Today I was go desperate and put phone in freezer for about 45 min, but in sleeve cover.
It was all frozen, covered with tiny layer of ice when i get it out, and started to getting wet when warms up so i clean him up fast.
BUT, WiFi strong as never before.
I was a couple hours before, so wee will se. It is still @ full without slightest signs of loosing strength and that was happening before too.
I was neither firm believer in this theory, but now, at least i can share my experience.

P.S.
I forgot to get out SIM card before and for some moments after get it out of freezer there was "no SIM card" message so i was panicked a little, but moment later it was all good. So for some who might try this out, maybe is not the bad idea to get SIM card OUT before.

Hi Guys. I´m having the same problem with my iPhone since yesterday. I updated some Apps from the AppStore and put the phone back on the table during the update. After about 30 minutes I tried to get my email and it wasn´t possible. I looked to the WIFI connection and no WIFI appears in the list. Before I have had about 5 WIFI including my one. I tried to recover my iPhone but I still have the same problem, that i can´t see any WIFI. A friend of me tried to access my WIFI without any problems also
my MacBook has no problem with my WIFI. I also reseted my router but without success.
Has anybody a HELP for me.
Thanks in advance.

Have you tried to reset the network settings on the phone..... And when the ip goes off... U really should be patient with that..... I get it alot but with a little wait it get stable and I use my wifi.... But my first advice is to reset ur network settings
another painful but can work advice is to back up your phone and restore... That should get everything working

WOW - I'm glad I found this thread, sending my reply kinda feels like signing a petition!

I have an iPhone 3G, running whatever the current software is, and I have had it for 18 months. I have NEVER had any issue with it. Until yesterday. All of the sudden it was not connected to my home wireless. I have very poor 3G/E coverage at my house so wifi is essential. The phone was prompting me to sign into nearby wireless networks and mine occasionally came up. When I put my password in it came up as unable to connect. My laptop is using the same network and it doesn't have a problem.

I tried it at work today and it still wouldn't connect. It wouldn't connect to a public wifi. I happened to be at the mall and there was an Apple store so I wandered in.

They tried resetting network connections - nothing.
Resetting the phone (holding down both buttons) - nothing
I hadn't backed it up in awhile so I wouldn't let them restore it in the store - this evening I restored it - nothing.
I even restored it again but didn't put my apps and all on - just the "naked" factory settings - nothing.

I have a Genius Bar appointment on Mon.

It's out of warranty and I'm 6 months away from being eligible for an upgrade - not sure what to do.

Hey I was just wondering how many of you have this wi-fi problem but have not jail broke or unlocked your phones? In other words, could this be a software issue? Or, if you did unlock the phone when you did a complete reset of the phone without unlocking it again did it solve your problem?

Here is my situation. I unlocked my phone so I could use it on a trip to Africa. The phone worked great before and after the unlock/jail break. When I landed in Tanzania Africa I changed sim cards and the network worked fine but I could not see any wi-fi networks neither could I connect to them manually. After 2 weeks I went back to the US and swapped out sim cards for the original AT&T sim and the wi-fi worked just fine. 4 months later I returned to the same place in Africa and did the same routine with the sim cards but this time the wi-fi worked great... for 1 week. Now it is completely gone again. Maybe it is just a coincidence that it worked like it did. I really didnt pay too much attention in the US because I always had 3g coverage. But the timing is weird.

Well, I read somewhere that someone experienced the same problem when they turned on "Location services" and that turning it back off helped them. I tried this but it didn't work right away. However, within 24 hours my wifi is back finding every network. The only change I made was turning location services off (settings-general-location settings tab) and then syncing to the computer. I haven't turned it back on again to see if it causes the same problem because Im a little nervous. Anyway, give it a try and then be patient and then comment in this post if it works. So far I am 1 week+ of it working with no problems again. Weird.

Freezer Freezer Freezer!!

Only thing that actually worked for me. Has to therfore be a hardware fault. You will probably like me still try this trick last but it is the one that will work if only tempory. I now need to find a buyer for my phone living somewhere in the tundra as that is the only place. I can now see it reliably working....

ATTENTION: ATTENTION: ATTENTION :::

I don't think it's a hardware issue. I too tried the freezer trick and my iPhone briefly found my wifi except that after I type in my network password I get a message stating that the phone was unable to connect to the network. When I go back to search for the network again, it is gone.

So why do I suspect that it's not a hardware issue?

Well for 1, when I put my iPhone in the freezer and took it out it didn't find my wifi right away. I only froze it for about 3-4 minutes and by the time that it found it the phone was back not normal temperature. I thought that was weird so I left my phone alone and tried a few other things the next day without putting it in the freezer.

First I reset my network settings and as soon as my phone rebooted I immediately went to see the wifi settings and there it was again... I could see my home network. I typed in the password and got the error message again "unable to connect to the network". I went back just like before and the network was gone.

Now it's getting interesting since freezer or no freezer, simply resetting my network settings gave me the same result. So I tried something else.

As a final test I connected my iphone to my pc and restored it to factory default setting. Once the phone rebooted I immediately went in to wifi settings again and for the third time THERE IT WAS AGAIN!!! It had found my wifi network just like the time I put it in the freezer and like the time I just reset my network settings but every time I go to type in the password, two things happen.

1) The phone does not connect and I get an error that says "unable to connect to network"

2) If I go back to the first screen of wifi settings, the network is gone again.

Something is happening that when the phone is reset or restored it will find the wifi connection briefly same as when you put it in the freezer. I also tried doing a hard reboot by holding the home button and the power button at the same time and the phone will sometimes finds the wifi network but it goes away real quick. Changing the temperature would mean that it is a possible hardware issue but since I am able to reproduce the freezer trick without changing the temperature then it must be software related.

My phone is unlocked and jailbroken I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone who has not jailbroke their phone? Could it be a virus? This is really annoying!!!
