Date and time on my iPhone keeps changing to GMT or Cupertino time

Hi,

Somehow my date and time settings keeps changing to GMT/Cupertino despite setting it to Mumbai (India). Because of this all my alarms and calendar events have gone for a toss. I have changed the time to Mumbai multiple times, but it keeps switching back without event touching the phone. I even upgraded to 2.0.2 but the problem persists. Any idea what else can I do to get this working.

Ashish and avidamani - Thanks guys. In fact I just noticed a couple of things. First as you guys said, if I switch to Airplane mode it throws my time out of whack. Second even after I change the time zone (i.e. at 8.45am when it messes up first) I get the right time but the time zone shows GMT. Then when I change to Mumbai, it goes back to GMT time.

Bottomline: keep waiting. Apple won't tell Vodafone to rectify it and Vodafone doesn't have the intelligence to solve it.

@Anupam G: My iphone hung 2 day back. it used to lit up but the touch screen just wont respond ...if this ever happens, simultaneously hold sleep/ wake button and the home button for 10 sec.. the phone will reboot on its own

Is it the same with airtel? Or just vodafone (where only the dog follows you not their n/w).
Does anyone know any senior persons (like Customer service head) email id in vodafone. Can try sending an email to that guys. Alteast will escalate the issue if nothing else. The call center people are just dumb. Feel like breaking their neck whenever I talk to them. They haven't yet activated the new iPhone tariffs for my number despite the fact that I requested for it on 25th. 😟

Just a quick update. I was traveling around the city and was noticing that the time just went spinning off. This doesn't happen when I'm in one location. So basically the more I travel, the more the time reverts to GMT.

Another thing was that at times when the time was correct, the zone remained stuck to GMT. So right now if the iphone clock is correctly showing 7.55pm, the timezone shown will be GMT and not Mumbai.

@anks0203 Thanks very much for that very helpful tip. Will keep it in mind.

@avidamani lol..I don't think Vodafone even has capabilities to resolve this issue. I have no idea about who is who at Vodafone and I don't even know how to find out. Sorry!

From yesterday afternoon till today the time hasn't changed and neither has the time zone changed on my iPhone. This is what I did... see if it works for you guys

1) Switch off the phone
2) take out the sim card
3) put it back in after 5-10 min
4) switch on the phone
5) in setting do reset all settings
6) set the time zone to new delhi and set the time and date
7) in clock also remove mumbai and add new delhi...

I did this yest and till now the time has not changed despite the fact that n/w connectivity was lost few times. Also non of my calender events started beeping before time (which used to happen earlier cause the time was going ahead bu 5:30 hrs)

Tried the sequence you mentioned and hope that it works.
Will probably have to move around the city and wait for the day to be sure it works... keeping my fingers crossed.

Hey Avidamani - So far so good! I've followed your instructions & seems to be working. I've rebooted my iphone few times just to verify if the time zone changes but no it does not change now. Did u figure out this urself? Will update you tomorrow coz once I reach home then the time zone changes everyday but I'm hoping today it will not.

Update from my side: the time/time zone hasn't changed today as well. Hope this fixes the issue for final 🙂

ravigarg: No I didn't figure this out all by myself. One vodafone guy told me to change time zone to delhi. It worked for a day and then started giving problem again. Called them again and another guy asked me to take out my sim and try. That also didn't work. Another person asked me to reset settings and check.
So finally I did all these things together (as mentioned in the steps) and its stable till now.

Looks like every **** thing in world is like windows OS. Restart, Reset or Reinstall.

Hey Avidamani, thank u so much.. for however long it works..its the 1st time since i bought it dat the time is right the longest..for around 8 hrs mayb..the network in my building is pathetic..changed atleast 20 times a day..for now its perfect..
keeping my fingers crossed..

Had made the changes in the morning as per your suggestions.. and been about 12 hours.. and it seems to be working.

Never before has it held onto the settings for this long...

Guess is that if it holds on my way back home and stays with me till tomorrow morning.. it would have worked...

Hope we can get around to enjoying the phone a bit more now.

You CRACKED it!!!! u rock man!!!! So the time zone & date/time on my iPhone did'nt change since yesterday which is a miracle. I think this is it! For me it worked & I would say thats the fix to our problem. Thanx alot!

We have our closure... think you managed to resolve it for us.
Its been a full day and have moved about a bit in the city and have not changed the time.

Lets finally get to enjoying the phone and the most basic feature of the phone ie the time too....
