Ipod Not Coming Up On Itunes or on Comp. But Is Charging!

whenever i connect my ipod nano to my computer,it dosnt show up in itunes that it is connected! it dosnt show up on the computer screen that it has been connected also! it says its charging though. anyone got any ideas on how to fix the problem???...please help

i thought i was never going to be able to update my ipod but i did what you said and it worked !!
i dunno if there is other ways around it or if i have to do that everytime i update it but

When i connect my iPod it charges, shows as external disc, and brings up the iTunes. Somehow iTunes is not showing iPod icon, but when i run a diagnostic on iPod connection everything seems to be normal. So basically i can't access the iPod. I tried every way mentioned above - none worked. It all started with my iPod locking itself up - no action could be taken (it was protecting itself from any changes made via iTunes). So I've reset it to original settings, wiping out everything on it. Help please!
