Hello, I bought a new iPod touch, for a few hours the wifi worked fine, I had about..4 applications installed (no I did not jailbreak the touch), but then all of a sudden it lost the wifi, and couldnt get it back. I turned on broadcast SSID and it sees it, I connect to it, it says connected for a few seconds, then boom it disconnects and loses the network. The router works fine with my wireless laptop.
The router is a linksys wireless G. I also upgraded the iPod to 2.0 software.
My iPod Touch works if a network is closed: either password-protected or requires a sign-in. It doesn't work if a network is open: just connect and go. Many coffee shops have the latter.
Well, maybe, just maybe the problem may be solved.
I found out through CNET that there was new iPod software. Sure enough, iTunes told me 2.1 was available. But first, I had to download and install iTunes 8.0.
After that wait then there was a longer wait for iPod touch 2.1 to download. Finally the install began and it seemed almost finished when a big, bad minus something error occurred. I forgot many of the details (after all, I'm frustrated and not thinking clearly), but I was led to some tips. Meanwhile, the gear on the iPod is spinning and I can't turn it off.
One of the tips was to hold the off button and the home button simultaneously. The gear stopped.
Then I had to restore the factory settings from iTunes. Then I had to restore my data from the backup that iTunes keeps. I had 311 songs plus three additional applications. I pity anyone with 10,000 songs.
Can I access an open network now? I don't know. The corner coffee shop is closed.
I do know I can access my own password-protected network and have downloaded the front page of a newspaper published today. Just check Mail and I got a message I had earlier received.
