unknown error occurred (0xE800002E).

After downloading updates to applications and syncing to iphone I got error message: Some of the applications in your iTunes library were not installed on the iPhone "(my name) iPhone because one or more errors occurred.
Example of error:
"The application "(the updated app)" was not installed on the iPhone "(my name) iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE800002E)."

The applications however were still on the phone after the update and I was able to run them. I did a restore of the iPhone from the latest backup and the error message still came up. The more updates I receive the more error messages I got. I'm up to 19 app errors.
However, after deleting one of the 19 applications that were listed from my iTunes library and then syn icing to Phone again after erasing it I did not get the error. I now how 18 errors.

I called up apple tech support that they could not resolve the issue.

Anyone have a solution?

Here is the real test. Will an official Apple 3rd party update properly? New version of Remote is available, right? Well, it downloads and actually replaces the older version in my apps folder. It should update right?

NO!!! unknown error 0xE800002E

Have to uninstall Remote from my phone and re-install it, just as before.

So some genius at Apple realized that they have to code the new app to replace the old. Now they need to realize they should rewrite the code again to replace what is on the phone even if it is a different version! sheesh ....

Even if the "fix" above does work, I'll be ****** if I do a three hour tour for a fix that should take mere minutes!

I share your frustration Linda. In my post I mention that the time consuming part is synching media back to the iPhone. If you leave that off the whole process is probably 40 minutes. Then you can sync the music back at bedtime.

I suspect the bug is in digital rights management or iPhone file permissions, maybe in the iPhone keychain. Those are not trivial bugs to fix. I think Apple fixed the bug that caused our problem in 2.1, but they didn't then go back and deal with phones that had this.

When they do come up with a packaged fix, I wouldn't be surprised if it takes just as long as what I suggested.

Yeah, I'm not happy either.

Apple kind of burned out trying to get too much done. I think they'll be in recovery mode for the next six months or so.

I had this problem and solved it. The error message occurred when trying to install an update for an app that had been working fine.

I tried everything suggested here and on Apple's advice page:
-upgrading iTunes software, and iPhone software/firmware to latest.
-unchecking, sync, rechecking, sync.
-deleting app from computer and iphone; redownloading and installing.
-the whole Apple-suggested procedure, starting with de-authorizing and re-authorizing computer, etc.

Nothing worked.

OK, on to the solution. I synced, then hit RESTORE. Once the iphone was wiped clean and reset, I restored from backup (with fingers crossed). That fixed it. Of course, all my media was gone, so I had to reload my pictures and music (I have the "manage music manually" option checked). But all my apps and my data were there and working.

This solution also worked for me, even though I didn't RESTORE with factory settings and wiped all settings before recovering it from backup.

I decided to back it up, try to recover from the backup and see if it worked withouth wiping alldata. It worked by simply by creating a backup and restoring it right away.

Nice to see others are having the same problem, while I've got a couple little snooty forum users telling me im all by myself.

Here's what happens when I try to sync my phone now:

"Some of the applications in your iTunes library were not installed on the iPhone "Steves iPhone" becuase one or more errors occurred. For a list of applicaitons that could not be instlaled, click below.

3 total warnings

1) Repeats the above error message
2) The application "Truphone" was not installed on the iPhone "Steves iPhone because an unknown error occured (0xE800002E).
3) The application "Units" was not installed on the iPhone "Steves iPhone" because an unknown error occured (0xE800002E).

After using the workaround I described earlier in this thread for new updates, I decided to try the restore method of getting past this error message. I hadn't done so previously, because the one time I tried it (under the earlier firmware) I couldn't restore, but had to set up a new phone from scratch. This time, under software version 2.1, the restore worked. I have not had occasion to test it with an updated app. However, it has now been two days, and I have not had to reset my network settings in order to have mail continue to be delivered over the course of a day. So the restore has accomplished that, at least. Will post after the next app update to see if the error message reappears.

jfaughnan,
Your solution is the best by far, I really appreciate your effort in putting this together. While I know that lots of people might found the same solution but the difference in you is that you can take time to share it with us, which not everyone has time or interest doing.
Apple, where goes your gEnIuS bAr?
Thanks again jfaughnan.
