Adding HDD to New Mac Pro

Hello, i'm set to receive my new 8 core mac pro tomorrow and have a few questions regarding OSX installation into a new hard drive.

I bought a WD6400AAKS as my main boot drive. My plan is to do a fresh install of OSX into the new drive before I start loading files into my new machine. I was wondering which is the best way to install OSX into the new drive and erase the stock 320gb drive to be used as storage. This is my plan until now:

Install the HDD to an available slot.
Power up the mac pro for the first time go through set-up process from the stock drive.
In disk utility, format the new drive (640GB) for osx.
Insert the installation disk to the super drive and boot up holding the "C" button.
Do a fresh install of osx to the new drive (640GB).
Boot up and choose the new drive as the start up disk.
Boot up from the new drive and erase/partition the old stock 320Gb drive in disk utility.

Can this be done in this order?
Is this the most efficient way of doing this?
Is there an easier way I can install OSX on my new drive and erase the old stock drive to be used as storage?

Thank you for your help! Looking forward to your comments/suggestions.

Hi Catgo,

congrats on your new best friend 😉

The way you want to go has exactly the right order.

If you want to be done in less time, you can skip the installation of OSX onto the 640GB HD from the DVD by using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner, which can make a full bootable clone of the OSX volume on the 320GB stock HD onto the 640GB HD.

That way you are finished in about half the time.

Have Fun

Stefan
