I'd like to ask a question also and don't know how. My powerbook g3 pismo chimes three times on startup but does nothing else. The power light flashes but the display never comes up. Any ideas?

for starters ask each question in a new topic. a question like that would do better in the forum group about powerbooks.

I can't find the place to ask the initial basic questions...

You are not alone, however starting a new thread is easy, you just have to drill down to a specific forum. The Category: iTunes for example lumps together 12 different forums for both Mac & Windows users on various aspects of using iTunes. This is great for users when browsing across the related forums for topics of interest or to which they might contribute. However it is only when you select an individual forum that options to post new topics & questions are presented.
I just want to get rid of the "Now Playing" box on the iTunes display....can you do that and how?

Since you're a Mac user the most appropriate forum would be the same as the one that holds this thread, Using iTunes for Mac.

I'm going to guess that you're running iTunes 8 because I can't seem to find a menu option to hide this anymore (and it was there in iTunes 7). It seems that iTunes 8 has removed quite a few options over previous versions, either to try to enforce certain behaviour or simply to cut down on the number of options presented to the end user. I was about to say that perhaps you can't anymore, or at least not without a hack, but a quick Google for "iTunes 8 hide now playing artwork" found this:

This would be better posted as a new topic, not tacked onto another thread, but:

You don't need a .Mac account to have an account in the iTunes Store. All you need is an email address with any provider. Take a look here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534

Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is apparently critical. Note as well that this only applies to the App Store; you will not be able to get any of the free content in the iTunes Store without entering in some sort of payment method (credit card, prepaid iTunes card, gift certificate, etc.)

Regards.

What you need is the iPod 3rd Generation USB cable to plug your iPod into the computer. It's standard USB on the computer end, iPod plug on the other.

If you need iTunes you can download from:
http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/

when you click on the download link on that page it will take you to download page. Look on the bottom left of the screen for the Windows downlaod option.

You probably want to open your own account on MobileMe ( formerly .Mac)
http://www.apple.com/mobileme/

You don't need MobileMe for an iTunes account of your own, which you do need:

*Setting up an iTunes Store account*
To buy items in the iTunes Store, you need one of these accounts:

An Apple account. If you’ve purchased items from the online Apple Store, bought an iPhoto book, or are a MobileMe customer, then you have an Apple account. If you don't have one, you can set one up using iTunes.

An AOL account. If you already have an AOL account, you can use it instead.

After you have one of these accounts, you can set up an iTunes Store account and specify how you want to pay for iTunes Store purchases.

To set up a new iTunes Store account:

In iTunes, choose Store > Create Account, and then follow the onscreen instructions.

**Since you are logged into this forum you already have an Apple ID*

Welcome to the forums!

With all due allowances for the fact that you are a Windows user, you obviously haven't been able to read this thread (about starting your own question/thread) or choosing the correct forum.

You may have noticed, but maybe not, that this is the iTunes for Mac forum. Please therefore post your questions in the iTunes for Windows forum, which you will find if you click on the following blue line:

Hello, Tessie, and Welcome to the Discussions.

To start a new thread, use the "Post a new topic" link at the top of each main topic page. For example, if you want to ask a new question here in the "Using iTunes for Mac" forum, click here:

http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=789&start=0

then look up above the list of threads for the "Post a new topic" link.

This is covered in the Help & Terms of Use, by the way, linked at the right side of every one of these Discussions pages.

Regards.

i have multiple questions daily , i am trying to set up an infrastructure so i can ask my specific question without sifting thru other peoples questions. I guess this is the format . When i insert an audio cd and i choose from the menu for the internets to search for the track names it does nothing, it is a popular carpenters 70s group nothing obscure and when i take the time to type the track names in when i go to the itunes library it shows as track 1 ect.

This is my first attempt at using this question/answer forum, so I apologize if this is the wrong spot to ask my question. I'm just figuring out how this works.
My question...When I turn on my itunes, I can see my podcasts downloading automatically like they should, but when I go to the "recently added" area, it is blank. It used to show everything I recently downloaded then I could put them into the proper playlists. Does anyone know what I need to do to get them to show up on the "recently added" area again?? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

A few things:

First off, this forum is a community with a valuable history. Other people's questions aren't junk to sift through -- they are the lifeblood of the community. They may be the same question as yours, already answered. And they may be questions that you could answer yourself.

Second, you should ask each new question in a new thread. It's just luck that I saw this question.

As for your question about track names: AIs your internet connection working? Can you browse to web pages (like http://apple.com )? If not, you need to fix that before iTunes can use the internet to get the track names. If your internet connection is working, iTunes should automatically try to get the track names when you insert an audio CD. A little status box pops up displaying the progress of that operation. You should see the same status box pop up when you select Advanced -> Get CD Track Names.

Recently Added is a smart playlist like any other, you can look at the conditions and change them if you want.

Mine has the conditions:

Date Added is in the last 2 weeks
Podcast is false

Obviously that won't contain any podcasts! You can remove the second condition if you want (click on the button with the minus sign). But you might prefer to have a playlist just for new podcasts. I have one called Podcasts Added, with the conditions:

Podcast is true
Date Added is in the last 60 days
Play Count is 0

I have another one called Podcasts Played that I use to clean out the ones I'm done with. That has these conditions:

Podcast is true
Last Played is in the last 60 days

iTunes remembers the sort order and columns to show for each playlist. The first time you look at Podcasts Added, click the Date Added column heading to get that in descending order, and you can remove the Last Played column since the playlist only has unplayed podcasts. And the first time you look at Podcasts Played, click the Last Played column heading to get that in descending order.
