Recovering emails in Entourage

My Mac went down and although fortunately I had a back up on an external drive using Time Machine, when I tried to open Entourage (second User account), it returned an "unknown error 4363" message. It won't let me access Entourage and the various mailboxes' appear empty.

Can I restore Entourage on its own from Time Machine; if so how and will the original emails be intact?

If as I expect I have to uninstall and the reinstall Entourage, are the emails archived somewhere on the Mac?

I hope someone can help as this info' is my wife's', so I'm probably a 'dead man' if I can't retrieve her messages User uploaded file

Imac 20, Mac OS X (10.5.2)

According to Microsoft's site, error 4363 is:

If you get error 4363 on a transmission attempt, and you have one or more attachments, try deleting and re-attaching the file or files.

So it appears that Entourage thinks there's a message that needs to be sent that isn't there. Probably the whole database is corrupt.

If the previous database in Time Machine isn't damaged, then yes. What you will lose are any new emails that aren't part of the last backup.

Regarding restoring Entourage, how do I do this?

Look in the Time Machine backup for the "Main Identity" folder. It would be in your wife's user account at ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 Identities/Main Identity.

The ~ simply indicates the current logged in user. You won't find an actual tilde in the path name. It's a bit more plain to say the path is HardDrive/Users/username/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 Identities/Main Identity. Substitute 2008 for 2004 if that's the version of Office you're using. The final folder is still "Main Identity".

Place the current Main Identity folder in the trash. Restore the same named folder from Time Machine and place it in the same location as the one you remove. That's the only place Entourage looks for its database.

Hi Kurt, IT WORKED!!!

thanks very much for your help. Are you familiar with Yahoo and Entourage as recently I keep getting the following message?

"Unable to establish secure connection to pop1.mail.vip.ukl.yahoo.com because the correct root certificate is not installed"

If I 'o.k' the message I can still use Entourage so not sure what the problem is - it's just annoying!

Any help as always is much appreciated.
Steve
