Hands Free Link (HFL) on Acura TL does not work with iPhone 3G

I pair iPhone successfully, and can pick up the incoming calls. However, when I make an outgoing call on iPhone, and tell it to use HFL, the call is not transferred to HFL.

HFL works fine with my Treo 650, including picking the outgoing calls.

Is there a software update or setting for either iPhone or Acura?

Thanks,

Inna

InnaB, this is an issue with iPhone. This is just MY speculation, hope Apple will release a fix soon. You can also leave a feedback here http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html and PLEASE enter specific information of vehicle like Model, year and type of radio or Audio System your vehicle is equipped with when you fill out that feedback. I have encountered similar issues with other makes of cars too as I do a lot of testing of cars. There are some vehicles that work fine and then there are some that exhibit concerns like yours.
On a side note have you tried to RESET NETWORK settings and tried? Also unpair ALL BT sets, re-pair the iPhone to your vehicle and try it. Some instances I have encountered where the IiPhone was STILL paired to a HEADSET, it would NOT release it to work with another BT device. Some car audio systems have what's called an "Auto Pairing" which works awesome with iPhone, where you DONOT have to worry at all, start the vehicle, turn on audio system, iPhone auto pairs to that system. I donot know IF your vehicle is equipped with that design, check in the user manual of that system please.

I'm having the same problem with dialing out only.
Once I dial I press the hf choice on the iPhone but it changes
Back to iPhone. If I keep pressing the hf it might eventually stick
To hf mode. It's very hit and miss. Pressing the talk button and saying Transfer usually
Works after the call is connected but by then the person on the other
Is wondering what's going on because they are listening
To you saying transfer a few times. There appears to be a delay when the command transfer can
Be given.

I had no problem for a year with my original iPhone which is paired both with a Jawbone2 headset and Acura TL HFL. For the past month or so, however, the phone icon suddenly disappears about five or so minutes after driving. Often it appears again with all the bars after a brief stop e.g. at Starbucks but then into the drive drops again. It's never appeared during a drive after having dropped. I've re-paired it a number of times to no avail. Have talked to the Acura dealer who hasn't heard of the problem from others. Very annoying as I don't know if it's a car or iPhone issue, maybe related to firmware upgrades.

My iPhone seemed to work great with the HFS in my 2005 MDX. But, I could not originate calls fromm the handset and lately, the phone will ring and then when I answer, the radio returns and the person on the calling end can hear me and the radio. However, I can not hear the caller. I did find that if I took out the phone and toggled between HFS and iPhone, it would stick after the second toggle. But, isn't that kind of a buzz kill for the whole "hands free" idea. Anyway, don't feel alone. They need to add the correct profiles for the bluetooth connections to phone linking in cars.

My 2004 TL works just fine with firmware 2.0.2. As soon as I went to 2.1,
it would not answer successfully. Never had a problem dialing out from
the car. I backed down to 2.0.2 and all is well again.

What firmware are you people using?

You can back up versions of iPhone software by reverting to an older
version of iTunes and doing a restore.

Old versions of iTunes here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_itunes/

Go to the last 7.x version to go back before 2.1 firmware

I have a 06 Acura TL, with iPhone 3G v2.2

I can get the phone to make outgoing calls fine.

When I get a call, can answer it with the car, but the phone does not transmit the audio through the car. I have to change the audio source on the phone and use the handset for the call. (basically it answers the phone, but does not transfer the call)

I also cannot transfer calls. When I try, the car says that no call is in progress.

I just got the phone a couple of weeks ago, so I don't know if older firmware version would have worked, but it seems from reading around firmware 2.1 broke the phone functions with the car.

Apple - any update on this issue?

I just picked up a 2005 Acura TL. At first, my iPhone 3G 2.2 wouldn't pair. Just doing a soft reset on the phone helped. I now have it paired.

I can successfully and consistently make outgoing calls. But I cannot receive calls consistently. Sometimes the HFL works, other times the HFL appears to "pick up" the call but immediately stops displaying that it's in HFL mode. The caller can still hear me though, but I cannot hear them. I then have to transfer back to the iPhone and switch the audio source.

Is there still no solution to this problem?

I did some more research on some other forums and found a solution:

Update your iPhone firmware to version 2.2 (latest version at the time of writing this post).

Once you have version 2.2, or if you already have version 2.2, do a soft-reset of the iPhone (hold down the power and home button until the apple logo appears. This will not erase your data/music/programs/settings.)

Turn off the WiFi if you have it on. I am not sure if turning it off helps the process, but I read elsewhere that this may hinder the bluetooth. I don't know how truthful that is, but it's what I did in the process. You may try testing otherwise.

Now, in your car, go into HFL phone setup and instead of having a "ringtone," change it to "prompt." This will make the male or female voice say "You have an incoming call." instead of playing a ringtone.

Previously, 75% of my incoming calls would not be transferred to the HFL properly. Now, all five of my test calls went through. Probably not a thorough scientific test, but it seems to be working.

I hope this procedure works for you.
