Error 0xc0000005 when trying to start itunes

Hi all,

Whenever I try to start Itunes I get this error thrown at me saying an unknown software exeption 0xc0000005 has occured at an unknown location (0x00000000)

Searching on the net was a bit useless as no information came up whatsoever, so I hope you guys know what's going on here. I've tried reinstalling quite a lot of time, tried previous versions as well but the problem doesn't seem to be there as it just keep giving the same error. Quicktime does exactly the same.

My OS is Vista Ultimate 64bit..

I have no experience working with 64 bit Vista so I am not sure if this will help, but I will go though what I would for the 32 bit Vista.

Firstly iTunes requires Quicktime and it will not start if Quicktime does not, so Quicktime has to be fixed first.

Go to your control panel and try starting Quicktime preferences - give the full test of any error message you get.

Have you ever installed any of the following:
ACE & K-Lite mega codecs package, QT alternative, Storm codec, WinAVI video converter.

If so they must be uninstalled.

Download the version of QUicktime which does not include iTunes.

After uninstalling the codec packs or if you do not have any of the probelm codec packs, Remove QUicktime using the method for QUicktime in the following Link:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923

When you come to deleting files from the system32 folder you can delete any files or folders with Quicktime in the name.

Restart your computer and install the QUicktime that you downloaded.

Check to see if it works and if it does try starting iTunes.
