My airport card disappeared?

Was at the pub, got a strange IP error message, started looking at the settings, stopped, went home, checked the numbers, internet w a hardline works fine, when I open up airport setup assistant it says there's no card and won't let me turn it on.

My airport card suddenly disappeared a few days ago. It was working fine, as it did for 3 years prior - and then 'poof' my Power Mac G5 stopped recognizing the airport card. Not only could I not turn it on, my Mac listed 'no airport card installed'.

There was no specific 'event' that I could point to that caused this problem. But, after much searching and failed attempts to bring the card back to life, I came across this solution:

The solution to the "Airport Card Not Installed" error which happens on some machines after installing Leopard is to remove the folder "AirportConfig.framework" from System/Library/PrivateFrameworks this framework is a holdover from an earlier version of the system and isn't used in Leopard. After removing and rebooting everything was back to normal.

...it worked like a charm. Hopefully it helps.

Hello,

Worked for me as well.

I had my airport card replaced once under warranty (no charge)
I share my Ethernet connection by the airport card (would that have an impact) for hours per day.
The new card "disappeared" from (no airport card installed) after i accidentally closed the screen.

Made my research in the KB and found this, and it works for the moment

MBP 13' OSX 10.6.7

Thanks a lot

This is the same guy as above, the server would'nt let me login with my original..??

My AP card disappeared again after warranty replacement.

I carry the MBP again to one of the Paris Apple Approved repair center and boot and show the the card disappeared!

I leave the machine there and they call me back after a day tellin me thet the AP works fine but my HD is burned beyond repair?????

I agree to replace it (against 300€, they have to pay the rent) but I ask him to print the anomaly report that he got when running the utility.

He says that he CANNOT and starts a whole pile of BS regarding disk analysis...This same unbelievable BS was served to me by the Centre's Boss who declared: "you cannot understand the problem, WE are the professionnals here! ;-)))

-You all maybe agree that I will need some kind of proof, other than the Original HD, to make my case with a broken HD that's only 15 months OLD.

I returned there to collect my MBP and decide to replace the HD myself: now I own a beatiful MBP 4 Gigs of RAM and a 500G HD.

I managed to collect all my stuff from my broken HD (Mail, Pic, Docs etc..) it seemed that the 15 MONTHS Old HD had lost it's adressing registers?????

I have now all documented and, after calling Apple France's main Office here in Paris: I was suggested to put all together in a written report for the Managemnt to take appropriate action.

All I need is a workable AirPort Card Installed on my otherwise wonderful MBP 13.

If anyone has new news on this problem, please post!

Hello Again,

If you read all the above: -it seems that my disappearing AirPort Card problem is simply related to a connection

problem.
One evening having lost one more time the AP CArd (AP Card nort installed!) I simply tried to physically press (slightly) on the underside of my MBP(where the card/antenna connection is) near the screen hinge...and voilà! my Card is visible again!

And has been for some days already.

If this is the solution the prob is related to physical connection of the antenna/card/motherboard/map that might, over time, become loose/oxydyzed?

Let's see what happens in normal use for a few more days.

This morning my Airport card had 'disappeared.' No Airport Card Installed, my MBP late 2011 told me. After restarting from a backup disk, I still had the same results, so I knew that, in my case anyway, this wasn't a software issue. Eventually I "zapped the PRAM" 3 times, and THAT FIXED IT. - Interestingly, I had zapped the PRAM 2x when the problem first surfaced (after I installed Spotify - which may have had nothing to do with it?) - and zapping PRAM 2x did NOT fix it. I guess each consecutive time you hold down Command, Option, P, and R keys as soon as you turn the computer on by pressing the power button (zapping the PRAM) - the computer reinitiallizes more settings/functions. HOpe THis HElps.
