Software issue.

I just got the computer game Spore, and when i first installed it there were no issues, it ran well for at least an hour. now today when i try to start up the game and play it runs for about a minute and goes to the desktop. it tells me a variety of issues but the gist of it saying there is "an un-handled exception raised in..." some where along those lines. i was wondering what i could do or if anyone knew what is going on. i have Mac OS X 10.5.4 and i'm on a Macbook. could some one please help!

I managed also to make it work one evening (waoh...). I changed the graphic resolution of the game : everything low and it accepted to let me play 3 hours.

Today, it's worst : I can't even start the game !

Yes, I have it.

I had EA support on the phone and they told me about this thing.

I have to write this in the terminal :

-> mkdir -p /tmp/NOM D UTILISATEUR/SPORE
-> rm -rf ~/Bibliothèque/Preferences/SPORE Preferences\ Online\ Preferences/
-> ln -s /tmp/USERNAME/SPORE ~/Bibliothèque/Preferences/SPORE Preferences\ Online\ Preferences/

But he was not so sure so I have to do it with mac support. I mailed them but thet didn't answer yet. So I'm going to try in a agreed shop....

By the way, do you know how we do this "~" on the keyboard ?

Brice.

I'm able to open up another saved game, but haven't tried starting a new game from the space stage to see how that is affected. I did experience a similar problem when starting a new game from the cell stage and advancing to the creature stage. The error message was very similar, but the address was different.

The only place I've seemed to experience any problems is on the loading screen.

Hi
Just so everyone knows - I was on the phone for hours w/EA support. The only thing that was resolved was that there is a problem, AND THE PROBLEM was SPORE CREATURE CREATOR, that was downloaded. To make a long story short. I took SPORE, and the mac book to local Apple store and they fixed it. For free. Something about the Spore game and the Creator Creator "fighting " w/ one another . Whatever.
EA was no help and the guys at the Apple store (Woodfield mall, schaumburg il.,) saved the day!
The Game works now, and I will be supporting Mac products and their Tech's. October 2, 2008

hi
I'll be going back to the apple store this week. I will be more then happy to ask the mac geeks what they did and then I will have THEM post it to my login/posts for you. That is, if they will do it. But they seem to be very understanding of this problem. Just so you know there were quite a few people in the store complaining about the same problem and if the game(spore) was purchased at the apple store they will replace it, install the new game and make sure that there are no bugs. At least at the install moment. Also, in case you are in a hurry, you might try calling an apple store during off peak hours and they may be able to walk you through it.
best of luck!!!!

I have te same problem. I have played about 80 hours worth. Have a hundred or so solar systems, pretty much all the tools and weapons, $99+ million in the bank, been to the centre of the galaxy, got the staff of life and now I can not start the game any more. The error message I get is returned after I click the 'play' icon on my game. The message is 'Exception Raised' - Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000010 at 0x0056fd6a Do you want to debug it?

I have tried multiple time to start the game and get the same error (although a different memory address is returned each time). I have started a new game and that seems to work ok - but I don't want to start from the beginning again - too much time has gone in to this game besides my wife would probably divorce me.

I have looked in the various forums and other Mac users seem to have the same problem - as do many of you here. I have logged a tech support call with EA - but heard nothing!

this only started happening after the most recent system update 10.5.5
it blackscreens at bootup. splash screen, then nothing.

*here are my errors:*

_from the terminal window i launched the app in:_

the interesting thing is.... "libnvapi.dylib" does not exist anywhere on my computer. not in the spore application, not anywhere else. i googled for it and found the only reference to it on the web: in this thread. if i cut off the mac relevant parts of the file name, and the "lib" from the front, i get nvapi.. which is a nividia framework. so is one of the frameworks missing? perhaps it was built in to the system under a different version of 10.5, and it was removed or changed under 10.5.5? i hope this can be of help to someone.
