Shift + "E" doesn't work on any keyboard. Is this a Mac Mini Problem?

I don't know why, but I can't get the Cap's "E" to work unless I put the "Caps Lock" on and then press the "E" key. Holding (Shift + E) doesn't work and If I try it the computer will beep at me. We have switched Keyboards and it still doesn't work, so it's not the keyboard.

Anyone else experience this or know what's wrong?

Thanks

Mac Mini, Mac OS X (10.4.9)

That is certainly not a Mac mini fault - I've not come across anything like it on my minis or the ones I've set up and look after for other users.

You might check the Keyboard and Mouse preference pane and click the 'restore defaults' button on the Keyboard shortcuts tab to ensure you have not inadvertently set (or had an application set) an erroneous function for Shift/E.

Does this system produce any dialog box at the same time as the beep? Have you check that in the Keyboard tab of the Universal Access preference pane, Sticky keys is 'Off'?
