Using Local Network Gateway on VPN

I am using the built in VPN client on my MacBook Pro to connect to the network at my office. When connected to the VPN I can no longer browse the internet via my home internet connection. On my Windows systems I simply uncheck the "Use Default Gateway on Remote Network" option and I am able to browse the internet while the VPN is connected. Is there a similar setting somewhere in OSX to allow this for me? Thanks.

Mac OS X (10.5.4)

First, sometimes the VPN server tells the client that it MUST pass all traffic through the VPN server. And some VPN clients honor this.

But if your VPN server allows you to access non-work sites without going through the VPN tunnel and using the corporate proxy server, then try looking in:

System Preferences -> Network -> Your VPN interface -> Advanced -> Options
Uncheck [ ] the *Send all traffic over VPN connections*

Again, unchecking this option may or may not allow you to browse the internet without going though the VPN.

There is another VPN advanced option that allows you to specify your corporate proxy server just in case you can not get the VPN client to allow you to bypass the VPN for non-work traffic.
