Macbook Pro won't start - blue screen

My computer froze last night. I tried restarting it and now all I get is the intial apple logo screen and then a blank blue screen.

I tried tried restarting multiple times, using either power adapter or battery and still got same result. Even turned off and left overnight. Still the same.

Any suggestions?
Thanks!

The blue screen comes up when the system is booting if there is a need to repair something. Turning the computer off while booting is not helpful. I have had a blue screen for up to 5 minutes. If you are having even longer waits, you might consider booting into safe mode (hold down the shift key while booting). This will conduct a whole bunch of repairs. Run a permissions repair, then reboot normally.

I did run the disk utility last night from the Leopard disk and it found no errors. I also checked permissions and had some difference, but ran the fix permissions to correct.

Still not able to boot beyond blue screen. I really don't want to have to reinstall as I was in the middle of doing a complete backup when it froze. Only have partial backup.

Any other suggestions out there?
