Itunes 8 - Connecting Ipod cause Blue Screen on Vista

How can this be happening? Does Apple not test this with Windows Vista before they release this? I'm starting to think Apple programmers are a bunch of hacks working out a garage. First it was Windows ME and now iTunes 8. Apple, where is your QUALITY CONTROL!!!!

I can't believe it -- how is this happening is right... how does this EVER happen? Unbelievable.

I had the same problem. To get things working again:
1. I uninstalled iTunes 8, Logitech SetPoint software and HP Printer Diagnostics.
2. Rebooted.
3. Installed iTunes 8 and ran it once.
4. Rebooted.
5. Attached my iPhone ... no BSOD!

I haven't reinstalled SetPoint yet, but at least I can sync again.

I just called apple about the problem. After talking to their tech support they told me to call Microsoft, because they believe that we have all downloaded viruses along with itunes 8, and that it is not an itunes issue, but rather a windows issue. I went to Microsoft's website to locate their phone number, and they charge $60 per tech support call.

Funny how iTunes 7 worked flawlessly before I downloaded iTunes 8. We must have all downloaded virus and changed our system settings while iTunes 8 was installing. It couldn't be iTunes 8 could it? And by the way the entire world is getting fantastic 3G reception on the iPhone 3G. And Mobile Me has always worked fantastic!!! I love how Apple owns up to problems... IT'S NOT US! IT MUST BE YOU!, OR MICROSOFT! OR YOUR MOUSE! OR YOUR CHAIR!

Am I ever glad I checked the forum before installing version 8. Saved me a lot of grief. Thank gawd for this forum!!

Request to Apple: get on the ball and fix Version 8 of iTunes please! No Apple Itunes programmers should be allowed to leave the building until it's fixed. 🙂

I am having the same issue when I connect my iPhone 3G. Both my laptop and my PC get a BSOD on the usbaapl64.sys driver included with iTunes 8. Doing a System Restore in Vista and going back to the previos version of the driver fixes the problem, but breaks iTunes. I need to reisntall 7.7.

I've tried this and now iTunes 8 doesn't crash when I plug in my iPod, instead it does nothing. It doesn't see my iPod... Hmm...

Apple has thought of that too to minimize the number of bug reports! As soon as I try to log on to the bugreport website I get the following:

After reboot I still get the BSOD.

Looks like we are being monitored for saying too much Pooh Pooh on Apple. The link to the Digg story has been removed and I can't find the actually story on Dig either. Can Apple actually remove a Digg story?

No, they can't remove it from Digg. It's still up there, search for "iTunes 8 + iPod Causes BSOD on Vista".

Amazing that Apple can find the time to squelch dissatisfied users on the forums, but not the time to RESPOND to us on here.
