How To Copy DVDs to iPod using free software for Windows

To take existing DVDs that you have around the house and put them onto iPod:

You'll need two programs, DVD Decrypter and Videora iPod Converter.

Now, use this step by step tutorial for converting DVDs with DVD Decrypter. Note: Once you reach the part about PSP Video 9, stop watching and use the 'One Click Transcode' option in Videora to select and convert the VOB file that DVD Decrypter produces.

Once you have a converted file, add it to iTunes in the same way as music (drag it into the iTunes library) and it will automatically copy across to your iPod.

DVD Decrypter is not showing a DVD in my drive ??? Device Not Ready (Unable To Recover TOC) What does this mean??

Videora is snazzy as heck. No mental abilities needed to format any video up for the iPod.

My kids will freak when they see Spongebob on the Ipod!

So I ripped one of my DVDs with DVD Decrypter, took about 15 minutes. Videora iPod converter has been working on converting the VOB file for about 54 minutes now. Thing is that it has said it's 100% done for the past 10 minutes. The time remaining says -25 seconds. The file size just continues to increase. Any idea what's actually going on here?

This is strange behavior, but it does the exact same thing with me. The only reassurance I can offer is that after 30mins of 100% (about 1GB file size) the status changed to 'Transcode Complete'. Then you have a working MPEG4 file with sound.

What is meant in the instructions for DVD decrypter "you also need to have a working ASPI layer on your computer". How do I know that? I don't even know what an ASPI layer is!

Is that an error message coming up when you try to use the program? If not, I wouldn't worry about it.

If you cannot get DVDs to rip then that could be a problem. But to be honest, I have no idea what an ASPI layer is and my copy of DVD Decrypter works fine. I suspect this is probably an integral Windows component and you already have it.

I ahve clicked the Videora iPod Converter link, and clicked download from the site, and it takes forever to dowload, i have been waiting an hour, and it still has not finished, any help?1?

You may be having trouble with your connection, or they may be having problems with theirs. If you refresh the page and try again, you'll be directed to a different mirror. That might be more helpful.

Right, you'll need to give us more information... how are you trying to put it on your iPod? Which quality settings did you use?

Note: H.264 mode in Videora does not work, you will need to use one of the MPEG-4 quality profiles.

NOTE: When converting the VOB file in Videora, you must use one of the MPEG-4 quality profiles. H.264 videos produced with Videora WILL NOT play back on iPod.

I have raised this issue on the Videora forums also, it may be fixed in a later release.
