How To Copy DVDs to iPod using free software for Windows

To take existing DVDs that you have around the house and put them onto iPod:

You'll need two programs, DVD Decrypter and Videora iPod Converter.

Now, use this step by step tutorial for converting DVDs with DVD Decrypter. Note: Once you reach the part about PSP Video 9, stop watching and use the 'One Click Transcode' option in Videora to select and convert the VOB file that DVD Decrypter produces.

Once you have a converted file, add it to iTunes in the same way as music (drag it into the iTunes library) and it will automatically copy across to your iPod.

It could be a problem with the DVD rip, or it could be a conversion problem.

1: Can you play the VOB file (output from DVD Decrypter) in Windows Media Player or some DVD playback software correctly?

* If yes: Problem is with converted file. Go to 3.
* If no: Go to 2.

2: Can you play the converted file in Quicktime correctly?

* If no: go to 3
* If yes: I haven't a clue.

3: You will need to re-convert the video file with Videora. Make sure that you are not using H.264, and choose the setting 'MPEG-4/320x240/768kbps_Stereo/128kbps'.

Jamie,

First off you've been great in answering questions- but do you have time for one more? I followed your advice and downloaded the videora ipod converter and the dvd decrypter as well as watched the tutorial. But, i got lost with all the steps- is there like a step by step list somewhere i can look at using the software? Im not the most computer literate person, but i figure you can help me.

I downloaded the program. It works great, but it does take a while. I got it to my ipod and it played really well. Once I hooked it back up to my computer the video was erased. I tried putting it back on my ipod but it said that the ipod does not recognize the video or something like that. I then tried it again and it never went into itunes. So basically it lets me play it once and then gets deleted after I hook it back up. Please let me know what is going on.

hi, ive decripted and obtained my .vob file and have converted using the suggested software, but after converting i end up with a .ifo file not .mp4 or mpeg file as it says its producing. Ive followed all directions properly as far as i can tell. Although, i am using win 98 for the decrypt and convert...any problems here? decrytion tutorial says win 98 will not work if you select NONE for when "file spliting" in IFO Mode, but the decrypted file .vob is still produced. any suggestions? Win Media player will not play .vob file. Im planning on transfering MPEG file to itunes (win XP) later.
