Traveling to Italy

I plan to travel to Italy next month and was thinking about buying an iphone before I go so I could get email off the web and phone home if necessary. Would a US iphone work in Italy with a calling plan from AT&T?

No Problem. But it will cost you plenty, unless you lean how to control the phone, especialy the I-phone's automatic data polling. Voice Phone calls in and out will be abut $1.49 a minute plus taxes or so. data wil be 2 cents per Kilobye Make sure ATT has your International Roaming turned on authorizing you to make and receive International calls before you leave the country. Its realy a credit check thing!. (And you have to ask for it, it is not ON by default) Then look for the "Popular Disscusions" button on the left side of the Apple.com home page, and look for and read the "Tips for International Calling". Also look up and understand the rates for calls to and from Italy in the international section of the AT&T web site. Pay attention especialy to how you will get charged International Rates for incoming calls that go to your voice mail unless you have the phone OFF. I speak from experience from using the phone all over the world, most recently from Kenya Africa, and ireland on the way back home. P.King.
