How do I turn OFF the repeat text message alert?

Not nearly as annoying or stupid as items being added to 3-month-old threads that add nothing except whinging and moaning......just like this one that wouldn't be here except for one that was adding nothing except whinging and moaning..... 😉

The repeat text notification is annoying. Some people like it, and i understand that.....but when you are getting repeat alerts, and cannot answer them for your own personal reasons, it gets annoying...especially when you have visual voice mail....now you are getting alerts for voice mail, and texts...blah blah.....make an option to turn it off, or "can" it all together.
So what if it takes someone a little longer to reply to a text.....we used to use stamps on a letter for crying out loud!

In California it is AGAINST THE LAW to receive text messages in your car, even at a stoplight. So... when my text message alert goes off, I don't want it to continue to go off until I check the message, since checking the message could get me a traffic ticket.

An option to completely turn off SMS would be better. I keep my phone silenced all the time anyway, but it appears that you can select "none" for your text message alert tone. If someone needs to contact you, they can call.

It will only go off up to twice more. You can always turn SMS alert off while you are driving.

To those complaining about the reminder annoying them when they are trying to go to sleep, why don't you just put the phone in silent mode? Even if you are using the phone as your alarm clock the audible alarm overrides the silent mode and will wake you up.

The repeating text message alert is annoying enough, but what really ***** is the repeating Missed Call and New Voicemail alerts. Try being on a call in your car using bluetooth and intentionally not answering an incoming call. You have now missed the second caller AND they left you a voicemail. Your phone will play the audible alerts over and over and they can be heard in the conversation you are having. Also, there is no way to leave the current phone app screen to view the missed calls and voicemail screens so that the alerts stop! The only answer I have found is that you have to put your phone on silent so that the alerts only vibrate you to death.

Smart feature, stupidly executed.

Odd, I don't get any audio alerts of missed calls or voice mails.

A very good reason not to turn the phone on silent is so that phone calls are still heard. I don't want text message to wake me up in the middle of the night, but it is possible that there is an emergency and I need my phone ringing to wake me up and alert me to an incoming call.

Turning text message alerts to "none" is a work-around, but not as simple as it should be. There should be a setting to turn off multiple alerts and the lack of there is a real disappointment.

No, it's dead easy. However, if I do that then I get no notification when I receive a text message. This is not what I (and many other iPhone users) want. I want to be notified once +and only once+ when I receive a message, as I was with every firmware release prior to 2.1.

What is too much trouble is to go to settings and disable the new repeating text message notifications 'feature'. Every time I go to do this I search and I search and I just can't seem to find that option. Surely it can't be that Apple neglected to provide it?

The best option would be to rid of test messaging altogether (deleting the app), or at least giving an option of turning it completely off. It's a waste of screen space and resources for many/most users over the age of 12.
