iPhone 2.1 battery dramatically WORSE than EVER before

So I left my iPhone on overnight like I usually do and let it go to sleep

Usually before the 2.1 update, the battery would only drain 5 to 10% of my battery MAX

Now the battery has drained down to only 30 or 25% battery life left

How did this happen?! All the settings were left the same!

I had almost a full battery life when letting the iPhone sleep for 12 hours
Now it's drained about 70 or 80% of my battery life in the same period

It says the update had longer battery life, this proved the exact opposite for me

I don't leave EDGE on because I have wifi at home, and I don't have push exchange

Nothing would point to why the battery bar is so low, but what fixes are there to this problem?

Jumping in to say I've encountered the exact same problem. Since applying the 2.1 update, my battery seems to drain as fast as it charges, whether the phone is running an application or not, whether I'm using the phone as a phone or not. Standby drains it just as fast as if it was playing back video. I've restored it TWICE since applying 2.1 and that has not helped the rapid battery drain. I think something is seriously awry with the 2.1 firmware. I hope a fix comes along very soon...

Same experience here. Prior to the 2.1 update I'd lose a few percent overnight, but now it simply drains away completely if it wasn't fully charged before gong to bed. I've not taken note of whether I left any app running that might churn through the battery, but I do have Push turned off.

Thanks in advance for a quick fix, or, if you can't do that, instructions for going back to 2.0 with its non-fatal annoyances.

I have to say the 2.1 update has, if not dramatically improved, has noticeably improved my battery life and I am quite pleased. Prior to the update the max standby I would get before getting the 20% warning was about 24 hours with maybe 5 or 6 hours usage. With heavy internet usage I would have to charge the phone at least once during the day. After the update, after a full charge yesterday morning I still had a 50% charge this morning with 26 hours of stand by and 4 hours of usage. I would be able to get through the rest of the day today without charging if I had to. I check email at least once an hour, I surf the net and send emails several times during the day and I use the GPS at least once a day. I admit I don't have 3G turned on as it does not make any significant difference to me but I do leave wifi activated. And there was no noticeable battery drain over night. Considering this phone has more or less replaced my laptop which gives me a total of 5 hours on a battery charge, I am more than happy with this update and the iphone battery performance.

The post by jkent95 is IRRELEVANT to this forum. This forum and thread is about 2G (Edge) iPhones. In the jkent95 post you state "I admit I don't have 3G turned on" so this means that you have a 3G phone. As far as I can tell, the serious problem reported in this thread only pertains to the original 2G iphones. Our problem of worse battery life is not mentioned in the 3G forum. So, If you want to comment about the great battery life after the 2.1 update, you should post to the 3G forum - not here - because what you have written here does not pertain to our 2G problem.

Tim, if you're having this battery drain issue with your 3G, then may I suggest that you report the issue also on the 3G forum. It appears that there have been positive battery reports for the 3G's battery life (eg: jkent95 post) which suggests that the problem may be due to something other than which iPhone (2G vs 3G) we have. Could the issue be with a specific App that we downloaded IN CONJUNCTION WITH the 2.1 update? I have just deleted all of my Apps to see if this clears the problem. If this doesn't work, I will reset everything on my phone. If that doesn't work, I will reinstall back to ground zero. If that doesn't work, my phone goes back to Apple store (still under warranty). Consequently, if I am able to resolve this issue (may take a couple of days), I will report back to this forum. Dale

I have the original iphone and I noticed a huge change in battery life. It improved! I charged it in the morning and used it all day and the battery bar was still at full. Of course im not on the internet all the time, as I mostly use it for phone, text, and email but I do go on the internet from time to time. I keep wifi off, push off, and bluetooth off. Keeping those things off while youre not using them saves a lot of battery life. Im overall very pleased with my 1st gen iphone. I cant believe that there are so many problems with the iphone 3g. =(
