Okay, I've figured it out. I had to save it as a word document, or other file type, by going to file and selecting export. Then I was able to select the file for attachment.

You can also compress it — Control or Right click > Compress — and attach the zipped file. But your recipient must also have Pages in order to open it.
Pages, and Other iWork documents are not single documents like in other programs. They are actually folders when viewed by the finder or file attach dialogs.
You need to compress the file, as mentioned by someone else, since a Zip file is not viewed in this way and can be attached.
Personally, if your sending Mac to Mac, I prefer Disk images. They do not expand into a new folder or item on the desktop. They open in the sidebar as disks. You can then drag n drop the file where you want it, eject the disk image, and delete the original dmg file.
Thanks for help, I too was frustrated trying to figure out how to email a Pages document. I am interested in how to send as a disk image. Is this done from the Pages document itself? I can seem to find a way to save as disk image. I thank you in advance for you reply.
control and right click on what? i have the same problem. i have to attach a paper i wrote in PAGES to my professor and he needs to be able to edit it. So this means I need to compress it? im sorry but how do you do that again? does the file have to be closed? PLEASE HELP!!!
thanks so much!!!
Does your professor have a Mac with Pages on it? If not, you will have to export the file. File > Export then select Word. If the prof has Pages, control click on the file icon and select Compress. Attach either of those resulting files to your email.
