Charging

Just got the new 4th generation Nano, and when I plug it into my Apple Power Adapter a message appears on the screen that says "Charging is not supported with this accessory". I get the same message when docking in my Bose Sound Dock. What's up? I can only charge with the USB cable that came with the Nano.

With those two accessories and your new 4th generation iPod, ya, at least as far as charging goes. I assume the nano still plays ok on the Sound Dock right? You might contact Bose (or go into one of their retails stores) and inquire about the charging issue. I know those Sound Docks cost an arm & a leg, so they might be working on a solution for the many angry existing customers who are going to find this same issue.
Sorry,

Got my 4th generation Friday. No one at the Apple Store warned me about this new charging issue, when I made my purchase (opps, must a slipped their minds). Neither is the charging voltage change mentioned in any of the tech data I read before purchase or with the info provided with the product, or on the guide I downloaded from APPLE... SURPRISE!

I never expected it to charge this on my old firewire wall adapter, but I can't even charge it through my USB (apple built) wall adapter, and that is a recent purchase, and charging at this lower voltage is WAY... TOO... S...L...O...W. My totally depleted battery has been charging 8 hours and still isn't nearly back to 100% charge.

I'll probably pony up for a new wall charger and car charger, but I beginning to be a bit miffed that I am not getting good data (or customer service from Apple). A recent quicktime auto update (?) also eliminated/negated a previous upgrade that I paid for paid for. Who ever heard of a free update taking away a "paid for" upgrade. That's amazing.

These "scumbag" sales and service tactics seem like something more typical of Bill Gates than Steve Jobs. I feel I should have been given better information about this product, and Apple should make a wall adapter that recharges all their products. My TOUCH recharges on my old adapter, and it's NEW technology. I am getting disgusted and very DISAPPOINTED in this company! I will be checking in at the Apple Store later this week.

Your adapter should charge your 4th Generation Nano with no problems whatsoeve, so you could have a hardware problem with your Nano. iPods have come with USB cables since the 1st Gen Nano, 5th Generation iPod, etc. and firewire charging hasn't been explicitly stated in that time. It was just a matter of time before Firewire charging was eliminated, just like Firewire syncing was with those earlier models.

As far as Quicktime, if you purchased Quicktime Pro for 7.0, and it wasn't recognized in the recent 7.5.5 upgrade, you just need to re-enter your authorization code to "upgrade". If you've lost it, call AppleCare.

I bought my 4th gen nano and left for my honeymoon. I get the same "accessory not supported" when I use my old charger. However, If I plug it into the computer here at the hostel where we are staying it works fine.

I brought the nano into the Apple Store in London and no one had seen the new nano yet so they were of little help.

I guess a new charger is all I can do?

Mine won't charge with my JBL OnStage speaker dock either, brilliant move Apple ><

Funny thing is, I plug it into the USB port in my car system (Alpine,) and I still get the same message stating charging is incompatible...however, it actually IS charging! They even appeared to screw up screwing the majority of their users over!

I might just send it back and demand a refund...I really wanted the convenience of 16gig storage, but this amount of frustration simply isn't worth it. Like I said in a previous post, they have 2 days to announce a fix, or I'm done.

I have same issue re not being able to charge new 4th gen nano with 3rd gen nano charger. do we have to buy a new charger? if so, they do not differentiate nano 4th gen chargers on the site store.

Despite the first reply to your message, no, you do not have to buy a new charger. I am using the charger from my 1st gen nano on my 4th gen right now.

While this isn't typical of Apple, I'm surprised at your demands of two days for a fix. I'd think that, as a PC user, you'd be used to your technology not working as it should. At least Apple's new OS works with its MP3 players, unlike Vista not supporting the Zune at first. 🙂

BTW, no one here cares about your deadlines. I don't say that to be ugly; just that if you want Apple to hear your gripe/input, submit feedback to them. These are just peer user forums.
