New iPod randomly skipping songs

I got a new iPod classic 120GB, replacing my old 60gb. I loaded it up with my songs and stuff, and started using it, but after a while it skipped to next song halfway through a song. This happened a few times, and once the ipod even restarted itself (after displaying a low quality 8bit colour apple logo image). I then restored my iPod, and checked for latest software, and it seemed to be better for a while, but it just skipped a song again.

I'm pretty sure all the song files are mp3, but maybe some AACs. Songs that skipped played fine other times. iPod hasn't been dropped since I got it... I guess I have to take it to an apple center for warranty... Does anyone elses new 120GB skip songs?

Thanks
Rodger

Ok - mine too, but mine appear to be only the frequently played songs. My ipod is an older model. Here's my story:

I have a lot of songs on my ipod that I don't listen to often. I put them on there because DH likes them and when we travel, we listen to "his" music and mine - shuffled through the little car speaker adapter thing (I'm so technical here!). Anyway, I noticed that when I'm listening to the ipod and I want to skip over a tune that I'm not in the mood for or don't necessarily like, I'll hit the skip button, find one I want to hear and stop...the ipod automatically keeps going until it gets to the next song that hasn't been played as much. It won't let me choose and listen to the more frequently played songs, only those that are on the less frequent list. Even if I choose to just listen to the album, it skips the entire album. Is there a setting somewhere that I can adjust this so I can listen to what I want regardless of how many times it has been played? If I create a new playlist that has just my songs on it, will that take care of the problem? Its driving me nuts! I have been through itunes on the computer but can't find any settings that relate to this. Can any of you help me out? Thanks so much!!! Kim

I've just listened to my iPod today and its been skipping randomly, about three times today.

Now do not mix up the random skipping issue with the music which always skip at a known point. These are two different causes.

One, the random skipping issue, is definately a device bug issue.

Two, the fix point skipping on a track is due to the recording (or compression) of the track by iTunes, most often, a re-record will solve this problem.

The former problem is the one which is driving people crazy! Guys, do not pay good money to let them tell you its a norm, or whatever they are trying to make you think. Go bring the defective iPod to a retailer and ask for a Refund... (funny why they don't mention that as a last R in their troubleshooting methodology)

I got a 120Gb Classic yesterday and I've already noticed that it skips randomly as well. Really annoying because I had an old 30Gb iPod video and it never did this and I had it years before some cretin stole it.

Also there are a few songs that play for a few seconds then stop and the iPod returns you to the menu like the song has ended. This didn't happen with the same song on my older iPod and it's the exact same file!

Looks like this is a rampant problem with the new 120GB iPod Classic. I get the same thing happening for my songs. It randomly cuts off some songs, regardless of file quality or even what number the song is on any given playlist... it's just random! It's gettin' me pretty peeved! Now I don't wanna load anything into this iPod because I might return it. Dang!

I hope Apple fixes this with a FIRMWARE UPDATE, or else I'm REFUNDing this sleek-looking piece of portable machinery!

I just received a new 120gb iPod as an insurance replacement for a 30gb classic that got swiped. I've tried a number of times to sync it with iTunes, but all it does is freeze everything up, copy a few songs across, freeze up again, then display an error message saying I'm not allowed to copy things to the iPod hard drive. Anyone else having/had this problem?

When I first got my 160gb it was doing the same thing. Apple just gave me another which did the same thing. The only thing that stopped it was right clicking on the song or whole cd and choosing "convert to mp3".After that just delete the previous song or songs. I just made a note of which songs where skipping when I was listening to my ipod. I have my "convert to mp3" set at 160 kbps, I think you can change that to your preference under the edit menu. The songs haven't skipped since.
I think the problem has to do with songs not imported by itunes. I still haven't got all of mine though cuz I have over 8800 songs on my ipod. Hope this helps.
