New iPod randomly skipping songs

I got a new iPod classic 120GB, replacing my old 60gb. I loaded it up with my songs and stuff, and started using it, but after a while it skipped to next song halfway through a song. This happened a few times, and once the ipod even restarted itself (after displaying a low quality 8bit colour apple logo image). I then restored my iPod, and checked for latest software, and it seemed to be better for a while, but it just skipped a song again.

I'm pretty sure all the song files are mp3, but maybe some AACs. Songs that skipped played fine other times. iPod hasn't been dropped since I got it... I guess I have to take it to an apple center for warranty... Does anyone elses new 120GB skip songs?

Thanks
Rodger

I just purchased the new 120GB iPod last week and I am experiencing the same issue. My iPod randomly skips songs while halfway through, and if I go back and play a song that had just skipped a moment before, then it plays through all the way. It is VERY frustrating and if Apple does not provide a fix and respond to this serious problem, then I'm going to return my iPod and get a Zune.

wow. this is getting REALLY frustrating. as time goes by, my iPod Classic 120 GB is STILL doing this song-skipping thing (seemingly more and more often everyday). with no firmware update in sight, i may be forced to return this thing soon.

oh hey, i forgot to mention, anyone have any Click Wheel sensitivity issues with this new iPod Classic? i am. it is not sensitive enough, which wasn't a problem with my previous iPods...

Hi All.
At least im not alone in this. this is my second 120GB in a week. the first came from the US and the second from Amazon UK.. i though i was the unluckiest guy in the world when i had the same prblems with the second one. i select an album and it skips through all the tracks. i select another album an it just hangs on track 1, yet another album and it will skip t the next track every 5 seconds. if i reset the ipod then some of the albums work and the problems move to other albums i had just wiped and was about to sell my old 80gb ipod. i loded all the songs back on itad everything works fine. My friend has just bought an 80gb, so i loaded the music on hers and once again it works fine. Come on Apple...

Having the same "click" (not the wheel) problems, as well as the random skipping. Just started today on my 3-yr. old, 30G video iPod (classic). It is only skipping songs I ripped from CD, not any purchased songs. Have seen one comment suggesting changing mp3 conversion rate to 160kbps; but will that help with the 900 songs I've already ripped from CD? Any other suggestions?

I recently replaced my lost 80Gb with a 120Gb model, and am being driven mad by this intermittent skipping problem. You never know when it's going to strike next, but it's usually right in the middle of a long track or podcast.

I tried to take it back to the store where I bought it but they couldn't replicate the problem and said if I returned it to Apple they'd just say the same thing and send it back.

It happens with a variety of tracks - stuff I've ripped from CD to MP3 at 192kbps, stuff I've bought from eMusic (VBR) and even stuff I've bought from the iTunes store.

Wish I could just get my hands on an 80Gb model, I never had these problems before. I never wanted video / Genius / games etc - just a decent, reliable MP3 player. What a shame Apple don't seem to make them any more.

Yep mine does it too - at least once while i'm using it on the way to and from work. I thought it might be becaue of the movement while it was in my hip pocket.

Mind you my old 4th-gen iPod used to skip songs but it was more the MP3 being played that was a bit iffy.

The other problem with mine is that it occasionally restarts when trying to select an album to play. After displaying the apple logo for a bit it shuts down and then comes up with the main menu again.

How annoying.
Tracks showing everything correctly time wise etc, but skip to the next track part way (40, 50 seconds etc)in. Because they display normally, you can't hunt them down, it just takes you by nasty surprise and when you're playing the track on live radio.....it's an embarrassing nightmare! I might add that if you fwd through the "glitch" with the wheel, it will play the track beyond the problem. Weird and useless! Tracks are playing in itunes perfectly and had been playing, without any glitches on my old 60gb ipod. I have reset AND restored my ipod, which took me an entire weekend and as a further inconvenience, I couldn't use it as my dj supplement for a wedding I was booked for either. Of the tracks affected and detected so far, only one was purchased via the itunes store.

I also have an issue finding music by artist. I know, for instance, that I have a world of David Bowie on my ipod but I was unable to find him via artist search. On further examination, I found that anything loaded to my itunes and checked as "part of a compilation" had the same problem. This is extremely annoying and was certainly not the case with my 60gb. I have so far had to manually uncheck eack track via itunes which is also extremely time consuming with only 10% of my compilations worked on so far. I am also worried that this is not the only answer and I'd like to find out why it's happening.

I attempted to return my ipod to the point of purchase and was told I had to deal directly with apple. I found it tricky to find anyone to help via the website too. Yet another time consuming effort which is disappointing.
