Mac Pro, OS X 10.5.5 Boot Problem and temporary fix

MacPro stalls at boot to a blue screen, but I haven't got "ApplicationEnhancer.bundle" ( http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1541). I have to power down manually.

I can boot I discovered my powering up with my finger on the eject button on the keyboard until my tray come out, then it will boot! Don't remove your finger until you have the User login list visible, otherwise it hangs. I can then log in as usual and everything works! But if I do a Permissions repair I always have developed more errors! Hardware test is fine. Everything OK until update. Same with an other SuperDupered disk I tried to update seperately. Will still boot off a disk with 10.5.4 on it still.

All my software and hardware up to date.

Might just leave it on!

Any ideas, where to go from here? I'll try the combo updater first. Why should having the platter out force it to boot? What is damaging the permissions?

Mike

Same thing here....... I did and archive and install after it failed to boot, updated everything and now it takes a couple of minutes to boot. After the apple logo come up with the spinning wheel a blue screen appears for a couple of minutes, then it finally boots. I do not have an application enhancement bundle as well, any suggestions. all software is up to date.

Ditto. Same thing here, except worse. When finally does boot after the long blue screen, I series of windows with errors saying

"The application [Application name] quit unexpectedly. Mac OS X and other applications are not affected. Click Relaunch to launch the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple."

However, it will not allow me to "click" on ANYTHING. and the Finder is not even working to get to anything else. It's the blue screen with 5 error windows stacked on top of each other and no way to access anything. Hitting the power button brings up the Shutdown screen, but when I try to either shut down or reboot, nothing happens. *I'M STUCK!*

I've been using a Mac for 14 years and never had as much problems as I've had with Leopard. It has ruined many work days for me. For a "more productive" operating system this is counter-productive and makes me want to revert back to Panther on a regular basis, as well as breaks my trust in Apple's ability to provide a solid OS platform. I just downloaded (overly inflated - 316mb) 10.5.5 update on another computer so I could reinstall it on my laptop in target mode. It won't even let me run the installer, saying that "The Installer package 'MacOSXUpdate10.5.5' cannot be opened. The Bill of Materials for this package was not found." What the heck??? Now I'm downloading the (overly, overly, overly inflated - 600+mb) Combo update package in hopes that this will actually run. Close your fingers and cross your eyes...
