iPhone won't operate my front door buzzer

Doesn't your apartment have a wall buzzer you can use?

Oh come on you guys. "Normal" cell phones work for this...it is reason to go back to my bberry, I can't let people in my building (no landline)... poor me 😉

But I like the idea of the iphone making my morning coffee....

I actually live in an apartment complex that has a gated entry. Unfortunately, I can have it send the signal to my cell phone b/c it is not a local number. And we're too cheap to get a landline. The buzzer is to open the gate for people to drive into the apartment complex so we dont have to walk over to open the gate manually with the gate card.

I live in a gated complex also and have to dial "9" to open the gate, and have no problem doing so with my iPhone. The tone goes through every time. Your problem may be on the other end with the gate connection not recognizing the tones from the iPhone.

Try disabling 3G and see if it works then.

Most 'entry' systems using mobiles are (2G) GSM at best, which may also explain why some people mention their 'entry' systems being 'basic'?

Yes, I know, you'll probably want your iPhone to work out for you when you are using an 'entry' system needing 3G disabled, but hey, ain't life a beech? (well, it sounds like that when some people say it!)

(Yes, that is 'beech' as in 'solid wooden thing to bang head against' and not 'beach' as in 'thing to relax on in the sun'!)

I am having this same problem - I just got the iphone yesterday and didn't even think this could be an issue. I normally buzz MYSELF in, too - and now can't. Has anyone figured out a fix for this?

My friend lives in an apartment like that but they have a keypad that visitors can punch a number into since his number isn't local.

Yeah, I think there is some four digit code, but I don't know what it is.

my old apartment used to have that, but my new apartment won't give us the code for some reason. so we have to drive out to the gate to let friends into the gate
