You cannot conenct the iPod video (5G or 5.5G) to your TV with a component AV cable. You can only use a composite AV cable. The iPod classic (6G), iPod nano (3G and 4G), iPod touch, and iPhone allows connection to your TV via component AV cable or composite AV cable. For compatibility issues, check the iPod and iPhone TV out support article found on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1454.

I am trying to connect my 5th generation 60Gb ipod to my Samsung Plasma HDTV using the Component AV Cable from Apple. I have enabled TV-Out in Video settings on the ipod.

I am finding matching the color schemes on the Apple AV composite cables and the TV does not work! Why would Apple make this non-intuitive?

I connected the Audio Component AV Cable, Left-Audio-White and Right-Audio-Red to the audio inputs on my TV matching the labels and color schemes on the TV. Intuitive setup but no audio.

I connected the Video Component AV Cable, Y=Green, Pb=Blue, Pr=Red to the video inputs on my TV matching the labels and color schemes on the TV. Seems like an intuitive setup. Hmmm...no audio or video.

The directions say connect the red, green and blue video connectors into the component video input (Y, Pb, Pr) on your TV. Okay so that is Y=Red, Pb=Green, and Pr=Blue. Connecting the Red video cable to Y on my TV resulted in Black & White video and audio. Connecting the Green Video cable to Pb and Blue Video cable to Pr results in a PINK video and audio?!?!?!?

Apple...you claim to make stuff that is easy to use...you blew it on this one! What is the magic to hook this up?

Apple did this so they can make you buy their Apple Brand A/V dock. But if you go to Radio Shack, they can sell you a cord that's significantly cheaper (depending on it's length) and will most likely work, so long as you remember that red is video.

Just be glad that you don't own the Creative ZEN player, because where a normal cord will work on an iPod using an unusual method, normal cord will not work on a ZEN using any method whatsoever. (My friend tells me the reason for this is that their A/V connection doesn't use the "common ground" that most 1/8" connections use; ask an A/V expert for more details, if you care enough)

I also have a fifth generation Ipod and the Apple dock with AV connection. I am able to watch through the television for our two LCD televisions just fine, and have used the Ipod and dock when traveling with hotel TVs, but it doesn't work properly through our two Panasonic plasma TVs. I heard, but not through an authoritative source, that the video ipod just won't work with plasma TVs. True? Or is there a trick to hooking it up that I haven't figured out? We have tried every combination we can think of and have adjusted the video input settings on the TVs, to no avail.
