track auto zoom won't turn off

I had the track auto zoom on. Now don't need it anymore and deselected it in the view drop-down menu. The currently zoomed track went to normal size - all good.
BUT, whenever I select a new track, it still auto zooms. I check the view drop-down menu and auto zoom is still de-selected.

Any thoughts? it's driving me crazy

G5 Quad, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Sounds strange indeed.
Which key command is assigned to Auto track Zoom? Open Logic Pro>Preferences>Key Commands. in the little search box in the top right corner of the Key Commands window type: Auto track zoom. The default is 'Z', which is easy to hit mistakenly... You could disable the key command by selecting the command, pressing 'learn by key label' and hitting backspace/delete.
You could also try shift-clicking here:
