The article just recommended reinstalling the 2.1 updater. It was at either MacInTouch or MacFixit but I've not been able to find it. There is a way you could downgrade but it involves an Archive and Install (while keeping the user and internet settings) and then apply the various system, quicktime, iLife support and other updates to the version you want. A lot of work but a last ditch fix. If you do something like at, either now or in the future, I recommend you download the latest updaters from the
Apple Downloads page and install them manually. That way you can get the combo system updaters and only those others that you need or want.
UPDATE: I found the posting at MacIntouch:
"TS Low
There is a serious flaw for many users with the latest MacOS update 10.5.5 and the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 2.2 which followed shortly thereafter.
The problem causes Aperture and Image Capture (and some say even iPhoto) to hang and sometimes crash on imports. About a dozen threads sprang up on the Apple Support Forums immediately after the updates came out. Critically, some of the newer camera models are affected by the RAW update, so instead of enabling, the update is crippling image import.
Apparently someone took an afflicted system to an Apple Store where the baffled staff got in touch with the mother ship directly and were informed that the problem was known and would be resolved by yet another update soon. The Apple engineer's are on it, but frankly, this is very poor quality control. Apple is already ridiculously late in supporting many models of camera compared to Adobe. Apple's photography support has been found wanting lately and could be evidence of a company stretched too thin.
In the meantime, some users have found respite from the problem by downgrading to Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 2.1 found at:

I don't know where Low got the info on it fixing the problem for others.
