Mysterious line of pixels

I have been having the same problem for a few month now. I have a 15" MBP that i bought in August 2006 and had never had a problem with it. It seems that after I had upgraded to Leopard that i started having problems. I het the horizontal lines across the screen and more recently my computer has been freezing up right while im in the middle of something. The lines appear often in Safari, occasionally in iTunes and also when im watching something in quicktime and even on the desktop. sometimes putting the computer to sleep will get rid of them but then they just appear again when i start using apps. i guess i'll try a hardware test and see what happens.

Same issue here Core Duo 2Ghz MBP ATIx1600 card. Did not happen before a month o so. It may well be the latest OSX updates are flawed. I hope apple sorts this out soon!

i think we all can comfort in the fact that this might be a software problem,
since most of us never had this on tiger
and the connection between the anomalies and the GPU temperature is a good observation,
when i'm on a fresh boot, everything seem fine,
until i get horrible pixel lines on my desktop,
like the one i'm staring at while typing this message, embarrassing and frustrating.

Is anyone from Apple reading these posts? If so, please acknowledge that Apple is aware of the issue.

I know I've read some posts where people suspected this as a problem. Looks like it's official.

Unfortunately, I don't think this is my problem, as my system profiler lists my graphics/display as ATI.

I've got this problem too. ATI RadeonX1600 on my MBPro.

Ugh...I'm going to take my MBP to the AppleStore and see what they say.

My comp's temp is constantly at 160• despite having SMC at max. Sometimes, my screen turns off completely and I have to restart. This just happened right now.

Can you provide more information on "fan control"? As I've previously mentioned, this happens when it heats up. The bottom gets so hot sometimes, I can't keep touching it for more than a few seconds.

I downloaded smcfancontrol 2.1.2 from a link on VersionTracker.com. Yippee, ever since I started running it, I have not had any lines or color artifacts! "Knock on wood"

Note: minimum fan speed set to 3354 RPM, although not for any scientific reason, simply where I put it.

I'm assuming you're MBP has not been getting as hot, either?

True. I also have not been pushing too hard today, 10/22/08, yet. Running between 115-118 F
