In general, the same is happening with my 3G iPhone. The situation is that I have my iPhone plugged into computer speakers at my desk through the headphone jack. When I disconnect from the headphone jack, whether I'm playing music at the time or not, the iPhone will usually switch to iPod mode and start playing the first song listed in my iPod through the phone's speakers. It seems to happen more frequently when I disconnect the computer speakers quickly from the jack. Any ideas on what the issue might be and how to fix it??

As far as I know, this is not a bug, but an actual function of the iPod portion of the phone. If you are playing music on the iPod portion with the headphones, and disconnect them, the music should automatically pause. It may be that you didn't finish listening to a portion of a song, or paused it there, and once you disconnected, it disabled the pause. From what I can tell, and I haven't tested it completely, the removal of the headphones will either pause or play depending on what condition the iPod was in. I recall it doing that way in my 1st Gen phone too, just that it paused music if I unplugged the headphones.

You might want to check the iPhone manual.

No, it's definitely a bug. My iPhone starts playing A-Punk by Vampire weekend every time I disconnect my speakers when I leave work. Other than that, it doesn't matter what application you are in, or if you had the iPod playing.

Normally, I have Pandora Radio going. When I disconnect the speakers, it will start playing A-Punk. If Pandora was playing music, it will pause pandora (not close it) and start playing A-Punk. It will not switch to the iPod interface - I have to double click the home button and hit pause.

This is a stupid bug. It can't take more than a couple lines of code to check if a song is actually playing before sending a play/pause command to the iPod application upon headphone/speaker removal.

if (iPod_status = playing) then sendPlayPauseCommand("pause")
else write ("Hey, we fixed the bug and will stop playing A-Punk. Sorry, TJ.");
