I hate to say it but before my iPhone 3G I tried at least 6-8 phones with my carrier, we live out on the beach, a bit remote and getting a phone signal here entailed my going outdoors even in a snowstorm to make any calls, nevermind recieving any. I got a refurb iPhone 3G running os 3.12 and its a godsend. 99% of the time at home I get a signal and the days of me standing outdoors are OVER!
My carrier as you guessed is AT&T, have had them 6 yrs now and yes the refurb $50 iPhone 3G looks and runs like brand new from them, i plan to get another but a 3GS maybe.

Having read through these hundreds of posts it is surpising that Apple have yet to admit that there is a reception problem or to have sorted it out. From what I hear in the media the new 4.0 phone is no better. I live in the UK and have a 3GS. Living just outside of London and commuting through the city every day I have to carry another phone with me as I seem to get "no service" more than I get 3g or edge. The iphone really is great, but not as a phone and not for any app that needs to go online, such as news feeds. If Apple are not up to dealing with this there must be someone out there who can come up with a remedy, either software or some sort of antenna?
