MacBook Pro Blank Screen (Built - in & External) - continued

wow, it´s scary what you mentioned about repairing time.
A good friend of mine, which happens to be an Apple reseller in Mexico City, is well aware of this situation. Unfortunately what he offered me was: pay for the new board at the same cost you mentioned, or cross my fingers and wait to see if Apple accepts its responsability and repair all defective units at no cost for us... it may happen, it may not. And the most important: If repaired, use it for 3-4 months and sell it.
And you are not alone: I did the same with all my family about replacing pcs with macs. Don´t want to regret it...
okay this is scaring me. i brought my mbp in to the apple store because it would not run my 30' ACD they said they would replace the logic board. this was sept 12th they replaced the logic board twice and said the boards must be dead cause none of them will run the display. they just sent it to depot to get fixed. i hope i get it back someday. if new MBP were out i probably would have bought one just so i can have my computer. this *****
As of tonight, I'm joining the club. Apparently, I have the same dead Nvidia card problem. I did purchase AppleCare at least.
Peter, did they tell you how long it would take to get your computer back? I'm hoping for the best (like same-day), especially since I have to take a ferry to get to the Apple Store.
And I'm still scared about reports of having to do this over and over again. I run my business on this computer and can't afford to be without it for long.
Hi,
did someone analyse if this affects Early 2008 MBP as well? I am planning to switch to Mac and want a mobile device. However reading these issues worries me a bit ...
Regards
Don't get me started on Dell. As you can see from posts on this site, many have had successful experiences with Apple support. I have had several problems with my early 07 MBP (when I switched from Windows), but everything has always been expeditiously fixed, unlike other manufacturers, such as Dell, which have left me twisting in the breeze. However, if you are primarily intending to use your machine for wireless web work, I would consider other alternatives.
When I wake up my MBP in the morning all I see is a black screen on my connected DVI 23 inch. This is about the 5th time it has happened since installing 10.5.5. Every time I am forced to reboot about 6 times to get it working.
You can add me to the list. My MacBook Pro purchased July 2007 died a few days ago. I complained to Apple Canada customer support and they replaced the logic board for the cost of labour only, because I was a "long-time Mac customer".
I agree that this needs a formal warranty extension.
As I posted before my MBP3,1 screen went dark until-further-notice about a month ago now. I had to start using back my old MBP2. 😟
As much I have been a long time Apple laptop supporter, I counted that I bought 1 new MBP from Apple every 1.5 year over the last 12 years (it was still called PowerBook that time)... I now feel very irritated, scared and annoyed.
Irritated is because of the inconvenience this issue has brought to me.
Scared is due to seeing the quality and service has dropped to such a new low level since many people were unable to get it repaired. I was waiting to buy 2 new MBP when it comes out next month. Since the rumored GPU spec of the soon-to-be-released MBP is still the same as the 1 having this dark screen problem and giving me huge hard time - G8600M, I honestly don't feel comfortable buying new MBP with the same GPU/Logic Board defect.
I suggest we should all stop buying apple's MBP and tell everyone you know to stop buying it until they acknowledge the problem and repair for free for those people who were affected or change the GPU their MBP uses. I mean if apple sees their rising MBP sales suddenly take a hit, they might realize they are making a lot of their loyal customer angry and stopped buying their products by simple dismissing their fault or their vendor's fault into thin air without seriously addressing the issue for us, right?
I also feel annoyed because it seems there is no 1 in HK having the black screen defect as I am facing, or at least that's what applecare HK told me. I phoned them a few times and they told me they haven't even heard of this problem from anyone before and they are not going to repair it because it is not their problem... Is anyone here from HK and having this problem? can you please PM me or let yourself be known? So that I, at least, know that applecare HK is lying to me through their teeth and they don't care about my long term loyalties, that I will just call it a company with bad service (contrary to what they claimed themself through out media reports) and stop buying their products all together.
There was another user from HK that reported problems in the older thread named Marcux XI (found it using the command-F search), but he hasn't posted since July. He did mention that other people were claiming similar problems back in June at the HKG forum. You might want to check there (the site seems to be all in Chinese though).
