MAC UPDATE BEWARE!!

Hello everyone! this is my first post here. (i believe) I'm in a big situation here and it seems like everyone else may be in the same. After updating to the newest update for leopard and tiger, my system has not been the same. (10.5.11)
My computer and many others that ive been around where all doing the same. Below i have some computers that I worked on and there symptoms.

SYMPTOMS

-slow start up
-some start up commands not working
-firewire ports non functional
-update freezing
-blank desktop upon loggin in (no icons, dock or anything. non functional)

It all began when it took like 10 minutes to boot up my macbook pro. (usually its like 5 sec) I thought maybe I had bad sectors in my drive or maybe the permissions are messed up. Wrong. I ran disk repair and permissions, and all was "good". I also noticed that my firewire port doesn't work anymore. I cant boot up an external harddrive, attache a camera, or anything!. After fining out that my computer is crapping out, i called apple. They suggested the norm when it come to start up problems. disk Utility, reset PRAM, power management, safe mode,...you name it. didn't work. After hours and hours of hardcore research and papers full of suggestions, nothing worked. I decided to restore my computer. So what anyone would do, I popped in the disk and started to restore. After fully (i mean fully) deleting the data on the drive, installing leopard, and booting the system, nothing worked. I mean, i still had the same problems. Firewire ports not working, and a unstable system. One may say, hardware problems? haha i dont think so. (i hope) One day it worked and one day it didn't. after updating that is. In the end, I'm shipping my computer off to apple because i dont have patients anymore.

I got a call from a client of mine and he was wanting to do copy come audio files to a disk. I agreed to help him. All was good until we couldn't open itunes because it required a update. So like anyone would do, I proceeded to run system updates. After running updates, one particular update was available. 10.5.11. I clicked update and all went downhill from there. The update downloaded ok and it hanged on the installing part. it was just sitting there for 20 min. with no sounds or nothing. So i tried quitting with no result. I forced the system to shut down and i was paining on restarting back into mac. ah, no no no. nope! after having the computer sit for 1/2 hour, the system wasnt booting at all. after several tries, no luck. I tried everything. you name is i've done it. reset pram, pwr mgr, safe md, disk utility, target mode,...everything! nothing. So i decided for this computer to do an archive and preserving. I couldn't delete the system because 1 it wasn't mine, two the person had 10GB of pictures from all over the word, and 3 he did't have it all backed up. So. i did an archive with preserving. YES! finally. my computer booted back up. long and behold, my password didn't work. nothing worked! I reset the password, and tried again. After 3 hours or trouble shooting, phone talk, and buddy help, the system booted up. booted up to a blank wallpaper screen with no return of opening successful. After that failed, i shut down the system and did some thinking. I wanted to just back up the system at this point. Most of the boot up commands wernt working and i was running out of ideas. Target Mode! I'll try that. After hooking up the cable to a working stable mac, the computer wasn't showing up. nothing was happening. I suspected this to be the mysterious fire port that was causing the problem. with no luck, i went to get some help...

I'm in a TV/Video class. We use firewire cameras and DV Decks. After updating last weekend, nothing has been working sense. The computer wou;d detect any firewire devices or anything! Not even a new imac that was updated! 😟 Your probably saying, wow thats odd. After 2 days of research, product testing, and isolation of the problem, we couldnt get it fixed, and we suspected it to be the update

Conclusion

this update killed my mac 😟

this update killed my clients computer :P

this update made us from not doing our video editing work at school :\

this update is baaaaaaaaaaaad. at least to all the computers that ive been around. like 6!

that being said, I called up bestbuy/apple store today. I told the apple guy there my symptoms and everything. After telling him this, He was like "thats funny, a lady with the same computer came in today with the same problem. no icons or anything on her wallpaper" After talking to him, they didn't know what the problem was and i guess was researching this too. They too were going to call apple.

I called up apple to and explain the problem to the product specialist. They are looking into it and looking at this update.

I'm suspecting it to be the update or maybe the firmware update since my firewire ports still wasnt working after reinstalling the system.

please give me your feedback. If theres anybody out there experiences the same problems, please write!

This is the reason that thread-jacking is such a bad thing. Nobody know who is answering or replying to whom.
I am beware of everything, including Mac updates. If one is beware then everything works perfectly.
