Sequence settings to 1920x1080

I am using a Sony XDCAM-EX1 camera Full HD camera and am shooting in full 1920x1080p30 format instead of the normal HDV 1440x1080 format.
But in FCP6, in Sequence setting, when choosing the Frame Size or Pixel Aspect ratio, I am not given the choice of 1920x1080 but the highest shown is 1440x1080.
In this case I feel that I am loosing the quality of the HQ 1920x1080 picture that is generated from the EX1.
However, I see that I can make a custom setting. If I determine on a custom basis 1920x1080 in picture size menu, will it be OK? And what precautions should I take when I want to export the sequence for working into DVD Pro and burn a blue ray disk with the highest picture quality?

Yes, I have FCP 6.0.2 and installed XDCM transfer. The download process and conversion into mov file is very smooth and easy. I imported the clips into my folder with no problem.

But can you confirm that, through XDCAM Transfer, the clips donwloaded keep their original quality e.i. if the clip is 1920x1080 HQ and not 1440x1080, the mov file will keep this resolution and will not downgrade it to 1440x1080 size??

That isn't full HD. It is highly compressed HD...a little better than HDV. Both shoot in the long GOP format...XDCAM just happens to have slightly higher data rates. FULL HD is reserved for cameras like the VIPER...and now encroaching RED...although that too is highly compressed...but very well so.

IN your EASY SETUPS you need to look for the XDCAM setups...those are the ones that match your footage. But, since you have FCP 6, if you drop a clip into a sequence, FCP will set it up properly for you.

OK. But let's come back to the problem. I have 1920x1080 clips and the sequence settings give me only up to 1440x1080 for picture size. Naturally for all the other settings I made sure that I have put the XDCAM setup and the one I chose was 1080p30VBR.
So my question is that, why FCP6 does not give this choice of 1920x1080 picture size since the XDCAM allows us to produce it ? And if I manually set under the custom settings 1920x1080 picture size, will it solve the problem and recognise that I have 1920x1080 instead of 1440x1080 picture size?

I don't know that camera...BUT, I can say this. Just because the camera has that full sized sensor, doesn't mean that the footage was recorded full size. On the contrary...to save space the footage is compressed, and is most likely compressed anamporphically from 1920 to 1440...as pretty much all HD formats are (few exceptions). Look at the imported footage in FCP...scroll over to the dimensions. What does it say? 1440 or 1920? That will be your answer.

When in FCP6 I check the clip property, I have:
Frame size: 1920x1080
Compressor: XDCAM EX 1080p30 (35 mB/S)
Data Rate: 4.3 Mb/s
So this answers one of my questions: XDCAM Transfer does not downgrade the clip size from 1920x1080 to 1440x1080.
But now the other questions remain unanswered. Why FCP in Sequence settings does not give me the choice of picture size to 1920x1080? The best it shows is 1440x1080. I woud suspect that, if I choose that settings, the otput will be downgraded to 1440x1080?
How can I make sure my outputs to DVD Pro for burning the results in a Blue Ray disk will remain 18920x1080, if FCP6 does not give me this option?

If you set up the project first before ingesting using easy set-up, XDCAM HD format, frame rate and XDCAM EX presets for 1080p30 VBR the sequence settings are 1920 X 1080.

Are you saying you did do that and your seq. settings are 1440?

If you create a new sequence. Open it in the timeline and drag one of your clips into the sequence you don't get a dialog to match the sequence to your clips?

Sorry but I am dull !! I re-created a new sequence in which I imported the clip and chose to set the sequence to the clip format. It does recognise the image size at 1920x1080 but what it did is to put it in 1080i60 (interlaced). It looks like FCP6 does not work with 1080 progresssive environment (Full HD).
Can you confirm that ? Why ? Is there a chance the next version will do?

I must have made wrong manipulations of the sequences and ths is why I could not understand. Sorry about raising a subject which is not very constructive for other forum participants. My apologies.

You are dull! You are completely missing something man. Are you LOOKING in the EASY SETUPS? For FORMAT choose HD. For RATE choose 29.97. Then in the USE choose XDCAM EX 1080p30 VBR. Then make a new sequence...then look at the sequence settings.

1920x1080 at 29.97...FULL HD, progressive.

Oh, shooting 23.98? Then make the RATE 23.98 and lo and behold there is a 1080p24 VBR listed too.

It is all there...so you are missing something pretty basic.

Sorry Shane but it does not work that way.
I did expactly what you said:
1- In Easy Setup, Format = Sony XDCAM HD
2- Use = XDCAM HD 1080p30VBR
3- Rate 29.97 fps
Then I create a new sequence and go tos equence settings and I have:
Frame size = 1440x1080 (HD(1440x1080) (16:9)
Pixel Aspect Ratio = HD (1440x1080)
Editing Timebase = 29.97
Compressor = XDCAM HD 1080p (35 Mbs)
So I dont have what you said: 1920x1080 picture size.
What else have I missed ???
But when I import a clip which is 1920x1080 (full HD 1080p30HQ from the EX1), it asks to change or not sequence settings to match the clip setting. I click on yes.
Then I have in Sequence settings:
Frame size = 1920x1080 (HDTV 1080i(16:9), like I said in my previous Post.
Therefore I reiterate my comment saying that FCP apparently works with interlaced but not progressive with 1920x1080. Can you confirm ? If not "educate" me (sorry about this term) on how to make it work with 1080p, or explain to me that it does not make any difference if it is 1080i or 1808p which I doubt would be the case.
