Does your Nano battery die really quickly?

A few nights ago I wanted to see exactly how long my Nano battery would last. I didnt keep changing through songs, or keep turning the backlight on..or anything like that, it just played through out the night. So in about 5 hrs the battery was almost gone! Weird. So the next day, I let my Nano charge to completion, (or what i hope was completion) and that night, the nano was on for around 5 hrs again. I thought Apple said battery life is approx. 14 hrs, which realistically I thought to be around 6-8 hrs. Max. So why such a short battery life? Or is it just me?

I read on apple site the nano first takes advantage of the FAST CHARGE (80% capacity)

after that it might take a while to fully charge your ipod 100% capacity.

just leave it plugged in for a while. even though it says its charged on your nano, doesnt mean the nano isnt taking in power to keep itself charged... blah just keep it hooked up even when it says its done charging... assure yourself 🙂

I just got my 4gb and am also having major battery life issues. It only lasts about 4 hours after full charges...I've even dont the drain test by just letting it play uninterrupted.

The somewhat weird thing about mine is that after it's fully charged, as soon as I start playing music the battery indicator immediately goes down a couple pixels - it never is full.

Will Apple exchange it for a new one, because this stinks?

I have been getting less than 7 hrs continuously I got the Nano Sept 25th. With no backlight, no EQ, 50% volume, and hold on. If I play with it I can pretty much watch the battery meter drop. I also notice as soon as I start to use backlight after a full charge the battery meter will drop so its never full. I know it is only indication but its still indicating something right. And this battery will only get worse I'm sure...should I contact Apple?

I made sure to fully charge and use entire charge first few times I used it. (Man was it hard to not use it for that first night I got it and let it charge!!)

I have let it fully discharge as I end up using it until it dies (because it doesn't last as long as it should) pretty much everyday I use it. Then let it charge overnight at least 7-8 hrs. Thanks for your concern chelseabees I DID read the above posts, and thats why I mentioned that I made sure to fully charge and discharge the first few times I used the nano.

What are you guys getting for battery life when you actually use the iPod (i.e switch songs every once in while and backlight comes on) but not playing game etc straight, but just being able to select a song, then put it back to a playlist let it play for 5-10 songs then select another song from library (using backlight). I'm prob at around 4-5hrs of careful using menu every 5-10 songs. Like real life battery length. I have my backlight set to 2 seconds.

At first, yes. I got about 4-5 hours. I read some of the messages and attempted to calibrate it. What I did to do this was ran the battery completely down, until there is no sign of life, when I came back to the nano, all I saw was the apple icon. I then charged it for 2-3 or until the battery life indicator indicated full. I then got 13 27 minutes. I am now getting 8 hours at this minute and the battery inidcator is still 1/4 lit up. I would try this at least once and maybe a second time, just drain it all the way, you will see a difference. Also, make sure that your backlight is kept low ( 2 seconds or so )and the EQ is turned off or set to the flat mode. You will see a big difference..... Good Luck.....

I just got my nano (used but looks new), charged the battery overnight, and am now at 14 hours and counting since I started it playing this morning. Settings are 50% volume, 2s backlight, EQ off, and I have been checking the battery about every hour by touching the wheel. I don't know what it will do under "real world"conditions, but I certainly can't complain!
