Apple Hardware Test results in 4NSN/1/40000000:TsOP-128.000

Hi

Since a few day's have some issues with my Mac Book Air. I've checked the poste about the switch off of the second core as well other posts related to kernel_task but I could not find anything similar to my problem. I've been as well at a local Apple Authorized Service Provider. But I still have issues.

The Issues:
- kernel Tasks is consuming around 60% (=> not possible to work with the MBA)
- System load is alwas around 2.5 - 3 (eg. Terminal => top)
- After waking up from sleep, the MBA run's normal for about 2-3 minutes. Afterward I'll have again a system load of about 2-3 and kernal_task consuming 65% CPU.
- I did a Apple Hardware Test and got as result 4SNS/1/40000000:TsOP-128.000

My MBA has:
- New replaced logic board (done by the local Service Provider)
- Fresh installation including latest patches to 10.5.5
- Reset of SMC

Does anybody has an idea what kind of issue this could be?
Does anybody know this AHT Error Code?

Regards
Stefan

I had the identical error code on my MacBook Air, and identical symptoms. I called Apple, and they instructed me to have an Apple repair shop replace the main logic board, which I did, but the hardware error message and the symptoms remained. However, we discovered when booting in "Safe Mode", the problems vanished, which led them to think it might be a software issue. They then had me "Archive and Install" OS X, which also did not fix the problem. Then I tried formatting my disk and installed Mac OS 10.5.4 from scratch, and then updated to 10.5.5; still no fix. I've now been instructed to bring the computer in for repairs again, to have the top casing replaced, as Applecare now thinks that some sensor embedded in there is broken.

I bought this computer because it was so light to carry with me... and it's an even lighter load when I don't carry it at all because it's being repaired... again.

If I remember to, I'll update here with further reports of my misadventures with this computer, so that maybe the next guy with this error message and problem can skip to the end and not spend 3+ hours on the phone and a couple weeks with their computer in the shop.

Hi,

Mine is macbook new 2.4 GHz. Buy it at 26 October 2008.
It's fine for 6 days, then problems start arise.
The problems are:
1. Random sleep
2. CPU temperature reading sometimes error (iStat Pro value: -128 degree C) If it's happen then the exhaust fan will run at +/- 6000 rpm
3. Illuminated keyboard doesn't work anymore (switch off all the time)
4. Automatic brightness doesn't work anymore.

I check with Apple Hardware Test, give me the error code:
4SNS/1/40000000:TsOP-128.000 (not 4NSN)

Random sleep problem realy makes me frustrated.

Does anybody can help?

OK, so unfortunately the resolution of this problem for me, after the computer has been in the shop for 3 weeks this time, is "we would like to offer you a new MacBook Air." So I can't offer anyone any pointers to what you suggest that they fix. Just make sure you've got a complete backup of your system before you send it in (as you should anyhow, but seeing as there's a decent chance you'll never see that machine again, it's extra good to have).

I still have the same problem with y MBA.
I was worried about the slow performance of my MBA. After running Disc Utility several times I almost reinstall the OS, when I found the Apple Hardware Test. I ran it in the two different versions and both failed.
Apple Hardware Test Failure code: 4SNS/1/40000000: Ts0P-128.000
Whit this information, I brought my MBA to the Mac premium retail shop from around the corner. The guy who checked my MBA in said that they will give me a call within 4 working days. I asked if my password was necessary or anything else. The guy said not. One week latter I went to the shop to ask for an updated because I didn't received any call. The same guy in the counter said that they were still doing some tests and they will call me back soon.
A week later I came back. Other guy was in the counter and he said that They had no idea about the failure and they needed my password and the installation discs. (Two weeks latter)I returned the day after with the DVDs, my password and the power cord just in case. I gave the items to the fist guy in the counter and asked him to keep me informed. Didn't happen. A couple of days latter, finally the technician showed up and said that the MBA didn't pass the Hardware test. So at the end of the entire journey I was the same as the beginning of the whole odyssey. My MBA is still ill and I don't have any clear advice form the Technicians from the Shop.

Hi there!
I just received my MBA back form a My Mac shop in Melbourne Australia. They said that they changed the Logic Board but the problem is still going on. Now I have my MBA downgraded to 10.5.2 from 10.5.5 and no repaired. However, they said that I better take my MBA to the only Mac Shop in Melbourne and probably get the MBA fully replaced because they couldn't do anything to fix it.
A big sorry and that was it for them.
I keep you up to date when I have something else to say.
At the moment I have a underperformance MBA that doesn't represent what its worth.
Cheers

I don't know how you paid for your MBA or Australian laws concerning purchases but in the US, if I had your problems and Apple didn't replace it (AND I PAID FOR IT VIA CREDIT CARD). I would ask the credit card company (with me I use AMERICAN EXPRESS) to refund the entire purchase price. Then the problem would be between Apple and AMEX to resolve. As long as you made a good faith effort to get Apple (or the merchant you paid) to resolve the problem and they didn't, AMEX or VISA/MC would refund you the purchase price. The merchant would be out of a sale.

Not certain I am a big believer in downgrading the OS as you lose out on so many bug fixes and security updates. Logic board and other hardware issues occur in the laptop world, only real course you can take take is persist until you get it sorted out. The only major problem I have had with a Mac in the past 5 years was hardware related btw, but, touch wood, my MB AIr is aokay.
